WRAITH: Martin (Marty/Mate) of Lucan

August 10, 2016 By Haskett Funeral Homes 180 Condolences

WRAITH: Martin (Marty/Mate) of Lucan

The world lost a kind soul with the sudden passing of Marty, of Lucan on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the age of 59.  Beloved husband of Michelle Walker.  Cherished son of Harry and Barb (Fletcher) Wraith of Lucan.  Dear father of Siobhan, grandfather of Eloise and Brody and treasured member of the Mutter family.  Beloved brother of Mike and Colleen Wraith of Lucan, Paul and JoAnne Wraith of Komoka, and Marnie Wraith of Aurora.  Marty was also loved by many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his K-9 friends Ryley, Jessica, and Baby. Mate was known for putting others’ needs before his own.  His gentle nature and quirky sense of humour charmed us all. Marty led a full life as pilot, cyclist, hockey player, motorcyclist, animal lover and repairman extraordinaire.  Sadly, while his struggle with depression ended, our fond memories of Marty go on.

Friends may gather at the Lucan Community Memorial Centre, 263 Main Street, Lucan on Saturday, August 13th at 12:30 PM for a brief celebration of life service that will begin at 1:00 PM.  A reception and opportunity to visit with Marty’s family will follow until 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Lucan Minor Hockey, or the Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.

Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan entrusted with arrangements.

Offer Condolence for the family of WRAITH: Martin (Marty/Mate) of Lucan

I heard about “Dog” and his passing from my brother. I lived smack dab across the street from Marty back in the 70’s. I didnt hang with Marty, but he was known as a great hockey player and bike rider. The best bike I saw him with was a Honda CB 1100. What a bike!

Marty is sorley missed by a lot of people in Lucan.

I wish the Wraith much peace, even in the passing of a loved one like Marty.

To the Wraith family. I was deeply saddened to have just learned of Martin’s recent passing. We knew each other years ago as pilots in Centralia and then Martin came and flew the jump plane for awhile at the drop zone in Grand Bend. He was a great pilot and fit right in at the skydiving club. I remember Martin as a real gentleman, very kind hearted, fun loving, and genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever met. Sorry that we lost touch over the years but I will always remember him fondly. I also remember how much he loved his family and Lucan. He surely was a pillar in your community. Please accept my heartfelt condolences at this very sad time.

    Dear Wraith family,

It is with heavy heart and great sympathy my family and I send our condolences. Martin was a nice guy and always kind back when we went to high school. That was a big deal as i was an immigrant kid and it was tough to fit in. He was quiet and took teasing like a man, which must have been a hard thing to do. He was a good role model.

You are in many prayers from those who appreciated his kind heart, including mine.

    Sincerely,

    Heike Nippa and family.

So sad for your loss. A beautiful service. Marty will be missed by many.

    August 13, 2016 at 11:34 AM

    Dear Barb and Harry,
Please accept my deepest condolences for the tragic loss of your son Marty.
I have not recently had the pleasure of Marty’s company, but my childhood is dotted with happy memories of a man who was never anything but sweet and gentle with my siblings and myself.
My favourite memory comes from a Benner family reunion that I attended over 20 years ago. The children, myself included, had to find partners to play a game which was to soak your partner with water balloons. I didn’t have a partner and I planned to sit out, rather than face the shame of being picked last. Before I had the chance to bow out, Marty asked me if he could play on my team. I will never forget the man who giggled and squealed with delight as we soaked each other.
The best part was that Marty genuinely seemed to enjoy himself- he didn’t act like it was a favour.
A man’s character is a testament to his upbringing. You did a wonderful job and raised an incredible individual. I know, from personal experience and observation, that this sad event will change you from the inside out. I can only imagine the deep sea of emotion that you face today.
I hope you know that my family and I stand with you. I desperately wish, but understand that I cannot lessen your pain.
    You did not deserve this.
I love you, I am thinking of you, and I wish I could be with you.

    With love and great sympathy

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Marty was a very gentle soul and had the kindness heart who always stopped to talk to us whenever we would see him – at the library or at the park walking his little ‘Yorkies’. As a teenager, there wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t see and talk to him at Donut Delite. He always wanted to know how we were doing and what was new in our lives. Lucan definitely lost a wonderful man.

Lucan has lost a well respected man and you have lost a much loved member of your family. Very sad to hear about Marty’s passing. As I’ve worked at Clarke’s Variety for the past year and a half I have seen Marty come in almost every time I’m working; always so kind and friendly to everyone in the store. He would come into Clarkes in the morning and spend between 30 minutes to an hour just drinking his coffee, reading the news and telling stories and experiences that have crossed his path.

Once I remember walking to work one morning and Marty pulled over on the road and offered me a ride because we used to talk all morning while I was working. He used to offer help while I was completing tasks at work and it was just the simple things that made him so kind. Marty was very wise, helpful, encouraging, and always put a smile on your face when you saw him.

It doesn’t quite feel right not seeing him come into Clarke’s in the morning. Marty will be missed greatly not only at Clarke’s but also within the community. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace Marty.

Marty took the time out of his morning on several occasions to share stories with our son who wants to become a pilot. Anytime i had an appliance breakdown he just tell me how to fix it instead of charging for his services. Marty was such a kind, giving man. He enriched ourlives with his smile and wit. Harry, Barb and family,

We were deeply sorry and saddened to hear of Marty’s passing. Both Brenda and I have known Marty for most of our lives.
Though we didn’t see Marty a lot, when we did, he always had a warm, fun, childlike quality in his personality that could take you back years to when you were kids and always left you feeling better for having talked with him.
I as well as almost every guy in Lucan played hockey with Marty at one time or another; he was a talented player, a great teammate and a lot of fun to be around. Many opponents suffered the brunt of a Marty Wraith hip check during his playing days and none would soon forget it.
Marty has kept our appliances going for the last 35 years; he was a jack of all trades and he would come over on a Sunday or anytime to help you out of a jam.
“Mate” was one of a kind, a true Lucan character who will never be forgotten by so many in town and the surrounding area.
He was a true friend, a kind, gentle, giving man and both Brenda and I will miss him very much.
Our thoughts are with you during this most difficult of times.

    Gord and Brenda Moon

Uncle Harry, Aunt Barb and the entire Wraith Family….We are devastated with the loss of Marty…Looked forward to having a visit every time our paths crossed…He had a twinkle in his eyes, contagious laughter and he was the neatest repairman around with his treasured bottle of windex and cleaning rags. He had such an aura of brightness that we will cherish and remember forever…We are so sorry for you and for Marty…All our love and support……Don, Heather and Family….

So sorry for your loss. I looked forward to our little conversations when he would come in for his daily coffee at Clarke’s variety. I was lucky enough to share those little moments with him and sometimes he would bring his precious dogs along. Thinking of the entire Wraith family at this difficult time.
