It is with deep sadness that we recognize the Transition of Maggie Waligora. Although I met Maggie only briefly some years ago, her life was an example to others through her kind and caring nature, her inquiring mind, and her obvious love for her family. We are deeply grateful and honored by her daughter Sharrie’s donation of Maggie’s mystical books through her long-time association with our Order. Each soul personality is on a personal path of enlightenment in coming to know the God of our Hearts. We send our love at this time and our thoughts to Maggie’s family as she experiences Peace Profound and continues her soul’s journey. With sincerest best wishes, Ingrid Young, on behalf of the Rosicrucian Order AMORC

Email from Darling Home Executive Director; I joined the organization back in 2003 and had the opportunity to meet Maggie at several fundraising events early on in my tenure. Her passion for supporting children with medical complexities and their children was apparent through her work with Special Care People and in founding The Cedarbrook Society. Without Maggie’s vision and fierce determination, The Darling Home for Kids would not be here today; I think of her often as we have a plaque in her honour by the front entranceway into the home. Her legacy lives on in our organization as we continue to embody her vision of supporting families throughout their cancer journey’s. We were touched to read that the family is requesting donations to The Darling Home in her memory. Kristen Harrell.

There isn’t enough room to put all of the ways that Maggie contributed to nursing, and to the care of children with complex needs living in the community. Her work alongside me in strengthening the Ontario Pediatric Nurses Interest group and in founding the Canadian Association of Pediatric Nurses took us away so many times on trips where we advocated for children, their families and for pediatric nursing standards.

Her work as a clinical educator in community health nursing at York university brought kindness and compassion for her students to a whole new level. So many times I’d see her lugging something from her home, that she was bringing in to serve as a metaphor as she strove to teach her students to connect on a soul-level with their patients and their communities. She served as a role model to other clinical teachers, gently, lovingly. She single handedly led York’s quest to attain all kinds of innovative community placements for nursing students, driving to each of them with her dog Jackie, one at a time – so as to build relationships with them on behalf of the school of nursing.

Her love of her family is the stuff of novels – never wavering in her unconditional love of her grandchildren most especially. While nursing and family were her callings – so too, was ministry. Many a day/evening we’d spend together – her studying for her Masters of Divinity and me for a PhD. Every so often she’d look up, and we’d share something we had read and have profound discussions about life, compassion, or whatever.

If you were lucky enough to call Maggie a friend – you and I are now kindred spirits – she never wavered in her desire to know how I was, read my budding attempts at writing, ask about our farm animals, or how my students were that year.

When I drove to see her earlier this week, not making it in time, I did see the dog wagon just outside her apartment door. And there, represented in that wagon where she’d lovingly place her two aged and disabled dogs so as to get them outside for a ‘wee walk’ – is everything that is Maggie. Selfless, a reliable presence and everything associated with Love.

I was very fortunate to have Maggie as a neighbour. She was so dependable and calm and had a great perspective on life. I will miss her but I am glad she is enjoying a well deserved rest in the arms of our Lord with Rosie and Gracie.

I offer my condolences to her wonderful family, especially Sharrie and Tammy who went above and beyond for their Mother’s last days on earth.

Thinking of the entire family during this time. Margaret’s love for both people and fur babies was unmatched. She always believed the best in people and was always trying to help those in need. I have many fond memories with her like swimming at her house and Christmas surrounded by the big family. She would always ask how you were doing and she was one of those rare people where you really felt like she wanted to know, not just make small talk. She will be deeply missed.
