Peacefully surrounded by his children at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Wednesday March 9, 2022 of Exeter at the age of 96.
Daniel was born on February 26, 1926 in Oostrozebeke, Belgium to Henri (1959) and Zulma (1983). Daniel took a leap of faith in 1953 and immigrated to Canada. He returned to Belgium in 1959 for his father’s funeral and to search for a bride. In June of 1960 he returned to Canada with the love of his life, Antonia, by his side.
Daniel is predeceased by his wife Antonia (nee Spriet) in 2006; his brother Frans (2002), and his sister Godelieve (1990). He is also predeceased by 12 brother and sister -in-laws and a niece in Belgium. Daniel is survived by his daughter Kathleen (George) of Stratford, and son Frank (Joanne) of Exeter. Loving grandfather of Megan (Chace), Chris and Amanda (Kenny); they were his pride and joy. He is also survived by 5 sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews in Belgium.
He enjoyed his final years living in Towerview apartments and gallivanting around Exeter on his scooter. He was thankful for all the friends he made while living in his apartment for 13 years.
Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at South Huron Hospital that gave him the best of care in his final days.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 370 William Street, Exeter on Sunday, March 13th from 2 – 4 PM. Daniel’s Funeral Mass will be held at Precious Blood Catholic Church 200 Sanders Street, Exeter on Monday, March 14th at 11 AM. Interment at Our Lady Mount Carmel Cemetery. Each person must register for the visitation please click “Register Now” below, to register. Registration is not required to attend the Funeral Mass.
