January 21, 2019 By Haskett Funeral Homes 31 Condolences

TIMMERMANS: Peter Jozef of Lucan

Peacefully at home, with family by his side on Sunday, January 20, 2019 of Lucan, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of Woutera (Tera) Timmermans for 67 years. Loving father of Dr. Peter and Pamela Timmermans of Waupon WI, Ken and Eleanor Timmermans of Bothwell, Dorothy and Mark Holden of Palmerston, Will and Marci Timmermans of Lucan, Nellie and John Villemaire of London, Helen and Jim MacEvoy of Aylmer, Rita Williams of Kamloops BC, Joe and Sue Timmermans of Thedford, and Hubert and Debbie Timmermans of Lucan. Loving grandfather of Tanya, Ty, Brittany, Peter, John, Angel, Tanya, Miriam, Christopher, Tina, Marci, Scott, Mark, Jason, Christina, Caelan, Ben, Chad, Jennifer, and Peyton and 19 great-grand children. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Leonard Timmermans, John Timmermans, Betsie and John Van Loon, Hubert and Helen Timmermans, Maria Leblanc, and Bernadette Roes. Peter will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Nellie and John Hofsteede, Tonia Timmermans, Gertrude Timmermans, Paul Leblanc, Adrian Roes, Tony Vanderheyden, and John Spruyt. Peter was the owner and operator of the company that carries his family name, which he founded in 1957. It was his goal and his greatest pride in life to provide quality workmanship and strove daily to conduct his business dealings as honestly as was possible in the business world we see today. Over the many years of operating his business, he trained many young men to become excellent electricians, including two sons, a grandson and a son-in-law. His most memorable friend and employee of 17 years was John Nyssen, and was greatly missed by him upon John’s death. One of his greatest joys in life was attending church services and raising his singing voice in praise of his Lord and God.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Sunday from 2-4 PM. Prayers will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:45 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, 1715 Dundas Street East at Manitoba Street, London on Monday, January 28th at 11 AM. Interment St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Lucan.

For those who wish, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Brother John did such a good job memorialising his brother Peter that it only leaves me with a few items perhaps unbeknownst to the family. The first to come to mind was Peter’s hobby as a youngster to collect cigar bands with the ‘Bolknak’ brand label the most sought after one. He walked many a country path looking for them and was sometimes ridiculed about this habit but didn’t I do likewise searching for empty shotgun shells on fire corridors in the bush after a party hunt? He was also handy at snaring rabbits and why not as we lived conveniently next to a 1000-acre woodlot. He was smart enough to keep out a wary eye for the game warden. As Bro John already mentioned, Peter was a longbow sharpshooter as a member of Liessel’s ‘Kunst & Vriendschap’ longbow club. But he shot left-handed! He had not passed eye sight requirements for his right eye and was turned down for military duty as a result. However, that had not deterred him from pellet gun target shooting left handed at the local pub. I remember the day that he won first prize, a bottle of cognac. Together with Heske Strijbosch, his buddy, they made their way home consuming many a sip from the bottle. Just as they came near me, standing on a ladder to try and pick the very last cherry on that tree, they pulled the ladder from under me, which caused a sprained middle finger that is still visible to this day. Peter was known to have nerves of steel. He never showed signs of fright whereas I preferred to take to my heels at the first sign of danger like when a German soldier fired pistol shots at me for running away from a downed bomber that had crashed on our farm. When a counter attack was launched at our town and bullets and exploding grenades whistled by, we evacuated out of harm’s way to a farther off family but not Peter. He stayed behind and later told how he had to jump head over heels in a manhole to save himself. When all was over, he recounted how he had found several abandoned rifles and had hid those. He and his later brother-in-law John Hofsteede had ventured back when the fighting had stopped and faced to riffle barrels aimed at them on entering our uncle’s house. They coached the two German soldiers to surrender, took their guns and ammo and led them to an allies Jeep that took them away. Later, every once in a while, Peter would fire a shot with one of those riffles he had hidden until people complained and police came to confiscate his cache. I regret that Peter’s eldest brother Leonard was physically unable to be or take part in Peter’s passing.

Peter was one of the finest people that it was my privilege to meet and also to do business with over many years in the electrical business. He was a kind and gentle man always smiling and courteous.
It is not hard to imagine where his spirit now rests.

    Bert, Tera, and family.
Over the many years in the electrical business Peter taught me many things that have helped me achieve success. I must say it was a pleasure doing business with Timmermans Electric. I loved the line in the obit that he “strove daily to conduct his business dealings as honestly as possible in the business world we see today”. That is was just one great thing about Peter, treating everyone fairly and honestly.
I also loved to talk to him about his Volkswagens that he seemed to own forever and drive forever. I just bought my first one 2 months ago and thought about him during the process.
In any case, I am so sorry about the loss of Peter. He will be missed.

    To Tera and family
From the four brothers and four sisters in this Timmermans family, Peter was the second oldest brother. I am two years younger. I wanted to tell my story of my best brother in the family. Never did we have an argument. In his young school age he always had many friends. You could not find a nicer friend in the bunch as my brother. He was the best card player and in later years he had three comrades who were always together after Sunday mass. He joined the bow and arrow club and became the king at hitting the target. He wanted to be an electrician and got a job in Asten for $.27 per hour. At night he biked to Helmond 20 km to school to learn all about electric. He came to Canada one year later and married a beautiful farmers daughter. Here in Canada he got his electrician license and became one of the best and it had always been secure . He was an honest brother, never would he take things that belonged to another. His wife was a good mother and they raised nine children. I miss my brother and want to say goodbye for the last time. He is at peace now. My condolences to the family. From your brother John.
