September 21, 1929 – June 6, 2023
Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Jessica’s House, Exeter on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the age of 93. Beloved husband of Donna (Bullock) Thompson for 67 years. Cherished father of Jim and Debby Thompson, Jane and the late Erin McComb (2019), and Jean and Mark Wright. Adored grandfather of Michael and Jenn, Shawn and Alexa; Nicole and Shane, Steven and Shelby; and Emily and Jake and great-grandfather of Jack, Olivia, and Sophia. Dear brother of Ruby and the late Jan Lagerwerf. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Ellison and Effie (Walker) Thompson and his siblings Don and Ila Thompson.
Russ loved going for walks, playing the piano and he cherished his furry friends. He enjoyed spending time at Pine Lake Trailer Park with his loving wife Donna and the many friends they made over the 35 years there. His friendly face will be greatly missed around the streets of Lucan and at the trailer park.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Thursday from 5 – 8 PM. Registration is appreciated. Please click “Register Now” below, to register.
Russ’ funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, June 9th at 11 AM. Interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye.
Donations to the South Huron Hospital Foundation, Jessica’s House, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Russ always had a friendly wave when he was out walking.
Being a long time resident he represented what was good about Lucan – friendly people and a willingness to help others. He will be missed.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of Russ. In the short time I met him back in 2015, I got to know what a kind , interesting, and friendly man he was. Our thoughts are with all of you.

We will miss seeing Russ on our visits home. We could always count on him for a smile or, more often than not, a good-natured jest! He was a wonderful neighbour to us kids growing up, and always took a sincere interest in where our lives had taken us more recently. Scott and I are so happy that we were able to have both Russ and Donna in attendance at our wedding a few years ago. Russ’s absence will be palpable on Francis Street but he will always be remembered fondly.
