SMITH: Harry of RR 1 Hensall
Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On November 28, 2022 @ 2:54 PM In Exeter,Obituary | 38 Comments
Unexpectedly but peacefully, at Queensway in Hensall, the hands on Harry’s clocked stopped turning at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Donna (MacEwen) Smith (2009). Proud father of Jerry and Joanne Smith. Loving grandpa of Sam (Dylan) Frost, Brandon (Leigh) Dayman, Trevor Mawson, and Michael (Jesse) Mawson and great-grandpa of William, and Georgia Dayman, and the late Jude Frost. Predeceased by his parents Orville and Lillian (Broderick) Smith, and his siblings Jack and Beth Smith, Norma and Don Cooper, and Helen Smith.
Harry was a long-time farmer. He purchased the farm on London Road in 1954 and lived there right up until a few months before his passing. He always enjoyed livestock around the farm, but mainly his ponies and chickens. He would travel the country roads any day of the week, as long as he was home at night to sleep in his own bed. He will be remembered for his quick wit, one liners, and his notorious history of needing a tire on his vehicle changed.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 370 William Street, EXETER on Wednesday from 5 – 8 PM. Registration is required and appreciated. Please click “Register Now” below, to register.
Harry’s funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, December 1st at 11 AM. Interment Hensall Union Cemetery.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

To the Smith Family,
I wanted to share a story of your dad…. I always enjoyed seeing his ponies in the north field of his farm while on my way to work each day and made a point of stopping many times …and to buy one of his many bikes he had for sale at the end of his driveway over the years for our granddaughters to have while visiting.
Over the years we made a side trip with each of them to “visit” Harry’s Farm they called it – to visit with him, his ponies, the barn, watching them in the field calling out to them by name.
Thank you Harry for those memories we made with you. Pam and Lexiee and Sophie

Just want to send along our condolences to Jerry and Family. Harry never had to worry about trading in his trucks with low mileage. Lots of trips to Mennonite country to take care of that! Anyone that knew Harry realized that was one of his greatest pleasures. May he Rest in Peace.

Harry was here to watch our neighbourhood grow on land he once farmed.
We have lived here over thirty years. He has plowed our lane and cut our grass. When our grandchildren were small the highlight of a visit was a walk to Harry and Donna’s to give apples to the ponies, feed the chickens, and look for kittens.
He kept busy but always had time for a chat. He will be missed.
Jerry & Family,
Thinking of you at this sad time.
Dear Jerry, Joanne & family;
