SIMPSON: Shirley May (Heywood) of RR#2 Lucan

November 26, 2024 By Haskett Funeral Homes 154 Condolences

SIMPSON: Shirley May (Heywood) of RR#2 Lucan

1948 – 2024

Completely surrounded and engulfed in love by her loving family, Shirley went home to the Lord peacefully on Monday November 25th, 2024. Shirley passed away on what would have been her mother’s 105th birthday. Shirley is now with her mom & dad (Beatrice and Laverne Heywood), sister Judy (Heywood) Gregoire, brother Don Heywood, her grandparents and previously deceased family and friends.

Shirley’s life is celebrated by her loving and devoted husband Ken Simpson, three children Darryl & Cynthia Lammie of Strathroy, Darla (Lammie) Voth & her loving partner Jeremy of Huron Park and Brett & Emilie Lammie of Wingham. Shirley’s life is also celebrated by 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Shirley will be sadly missed by her remaining siblings, Ron & Betty-Lou Heywood, Donna (Heywood/Bell) Regier, Gary & Louise Heywood, Joan (Campbell) Heywood, Doug & Joanne Heywood, Bob & Martha Heywood, Dan Heywood and his partner Belinda Durelle and Murray Heywood and wife Dena Morgan. Among those celebrating Shirley’s life are in-laws Hazel & Wayne MacLeod and Helen and Jim Hearn, as well as far too many nephews and nieces to mention. We cannot fail to mention the love/hate relationship she had with a furry four-legged feline named Maddie who will also miss her.

Shirley was a hard-working wife and mother who absolutely adored and cherished her family above all else. Shirley lovingly doted over her family. She loved to cook and tend her garden and to keep her house in showroom condition. A showroom you were always welcomed in, not one that was off limits. Warm and inviting was who Shirley was. The running joke was, what was she actually cleaning? How do you clean, clean? That was our Shirley.

Shirley worked hard, whether that was during her time as owner and operator of Bob & Shirls restaurant in Centralia, working at Cambell’s soup in St Mary’s or any other job she engaged in. Shirley met each challenge with her infectious smile and incredible work ethic. All while holding down the home front impeccably for her family. Of her tremendous character traits and bubbling personality, it was her infectious smile that was most prominent, and what an amazing, beautiful smile it was.

Her family wants to extend their gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses at the Exeter Hospital for their initial care, and University Hospital Cardiac Care ICU staff for the incredible loving care they provided while Shirley fought hard to heal and stay with us. That was not meant to be. As it turns out heaven needed that smile and work ethic. Our loss is heaven’s gain.

The family extends an invitation to all who would like to come and share in a celebration of Shirley’s life. A memorial service will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Monday, December 2nd at 11:00 AM (Please arrive at 10:30 AM). Following the memorial service there will be time for sharing memories and a luncheon.

The family invites you to join with them from the comfort of your own home. Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh.

To honour Shirley, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or Emmanuel Baptist Church Exeter in her memory would be greatly appreciated.

Today, tears sting our eyes, however our souls leap for joy that you are pain free and in the arms of Jesus, exactly where you are meant to be.

Offer Condolence for the family of SIMPSON: Shirley May (Heywood) of RR#2 Lucan

To Ken, to Shirley’s children and grandchildren, her siblings and other loved ones,

Our deepest and hearfelt sympathy to each one of you. It’s hard to express what Shirley meant to us, and to so many others. She was a treasured friend with a beautiful heart to love and serve others. She was such a joy to work alongside of at church, and always willing to help, whether in the kitchen or the nursery. Countless numbers of children benefited from her loving care over many years. We think of her now, rejoicing with her Savior and loved ones gone before, but we also know she leaves a large void in the hearts of many here. May you be encouraged and comforted by God’s everlasting love.

Condolences to the Simpson and Heywood families for the loss of Shirley Simpson, loving wife of Ken Simpson. Shirley was a delightful lady, and it is true, she radiated love and joy, (except for the times that Maddie “the cat” fired up Shirley’s temper!) My name is Mickey Nott, and am a good friend of sisters, Shirley and Donna, and as such, have been invited to meals with the Heywood family many times in the 22+ years I lived in Exeter. I was blessed being in the company the Heywoods and watched love, joy and humour in action, with a family that enjoyed one another.

Ken, Darryl, Darla Bret and all extended family members….
Our deepest sympathies to you all.
I had the pleasure of working for Shirley when I was a teenager with many great memories that I talk about to this day .
It’s funny because when you’re a kid you think that she was old but such a cool boss. But when you get older you realize she wasn’t that much older than myself and she ran a great business at Bob and Shirls, with her genuine smile ,and kind heart to all us young workers..
    She will be remembered ❤️
    Thinking of everyone
