Peacefully at the Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in her 101st year. Beloved wife of the late Elam Wilbur Shantz who predeceased her on November 23, 1995. Dear mother of Douglas and Doreen Shantz, New Hamburg, Gerald and Catherine Shantz, Zurich, Richard and Lois Shantz, Prescott, AZ, Norma and John Iutzi, New Hamburg, and Nancy and Paul Gingerich, Thedford. Lovingly remembered by 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Survived by her sister Luanna and Albert Martin, Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge and many Ropp and Shantz nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Samuel and Alvina (Baechler) Ropp; brother Alfred and Verna Ropp; sister Ina and Ward Neeb; sister and brother-in-laws; Sylvia Shantz, Seleda and Daniel Steckle; Mahlon and Mary Shantz, Orval and Helen Shantz and a grandson Perry Douglas Shantz.
Visitation will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 49 Goshen Street, North, ZURICH on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and again on Saturday, October 12th at the Kingsfield – Zurich Mennonite Church, 37818 Zurich Hensall Road from 10 AM until time of service which will be held at 11 AM, Pastor Ryan Jantzi officiating. Interment Zurich Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family.

To Vera ‘s Family;
Please accept my deepest sympathy at this time. My family and I got to know Vera at Bluewater while visiting our mother. She was always friendly to us and had a good memory for what was happening for the activities. She was always punctual for every meal and every event and seemed to enjoy what was happening around her. I am so pleased she made it past her 100th birthday! What an accomplishment. Even though I know you will miss her presence, she has passed on a wonderful legacy to her family. God Bless.

My love and sympathy to all the Shantz family in the loss of a wonderful, caring lady. I think of all the times I came back to Zurich for a special occasion and Vera would meet me with such a warm, welcoming smile, so obviously glad to see me again, even after all the years I’ve been gone. I know Roy will be welcoming her and her nephew, Bob, like we can’t even imagine from here! I pray that the God she loved and trusted will be close to each of you and heaven will seem nearer again as He comforts you and gives you His strength. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

thinking warmly of you all, many years after having been “neighbours” on the Babylon line, even tho’ our presence there was only very part-time as children, while we helped Dad look after animals or harvest on the farm! More importantly, we were classmates at the annual Summer Bible School, Rick and Catherine. And most significantly, deeply connected with Lois through family and friendship; therefore, Rick, with you too. You all had your Mother present in this life for such a long time …. perhaps longer than she cared to be here when the quality of her life had slipped away. Now she is at peace, freed from a vulnerable body.
