It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the age of 75, born March 27, 1948 leaving behind a legacy of kindness, positivity, and love.
Karen’s professional career spanned several decades, and she was a highly successful database administrator. After her retirement, Karen finally had the chance to pursue her true passion – camping. She spent many happy years exploring the great outdoors with her loyal companion, Eva, by her side. She was a lover of nature and all things outdoors. She had a keen eye for birdwatching and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others. Karen was a skilled camp cook and loved nothing more than cooking a delicious meal over the campfire to share with her friends and family. Karen also enjoyed community involvement in her retirement, she was very active in the Optimist Club of Ontario and was the Governor of the Midwest Ontario District of Optimist International from 2013 – 2014.
Karen will be deeply missed by her brother, Ross, and her niece, Susan Rowan (Peter) as well as her great-nephew, Jacob. Fondly remembered by many friends and members of the Optimist Club. Predeceased by her parents Norman and Audrey (Foulds) Scott. Her infectious laughter, kind heart, and adventurous spirit touched the lives of everyone she met, and her memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Thursday, May 4th from 5-7 PM, all who knew her are welcome to attend. Registration for visitation is appreciated. Please click “Register Now” below to register.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Karen’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Childcan, or your local animal shelter, charities that were close to Karen’s heart.

I worked periodically with Karen at LHSC.
Although we didn’t work closely together, we would pass each other in the halls and in the cafeteria. She always had a smile.

So sorry to hear this news. I worked with Karen for several years at LHSC and she was very instrumental in the successes of the early days of our electronic patient record journey. She had a passion for doing her best work, and an even greater passion for the people she served in her work. I loved following her adventures on Facebook after she retired and learned of her passion for camping, the Optimists and family.
Rest in peace Karen, and condolences to the family.

I worked closely with Karen at LHSC and she was very devoted to her work. She completed her work with caution and diligence so that the computer systems remained operational at all times. It was a pleasure to work with Karen. She was always happy to share stories about her dogs and horse. More recently, I would often run into Karen at a local diner as we both waited for our pick-up orders. She would lovingly reminisce about her trips out east. My sincere condolences to her family! She will be missed.

Karen’s theme for her year as Governor MWO District Optimist International was “Together for the Kids”.
I was proud to be a part of her team that year serving as a Lt. Gov.
Karen put a lot of effort into her time as the leader for our District. She wanted the members to have fun, be involved, and work “together for the kids” so that the youth in our communities could have the opportunity to grow and be the best they could be.
Karen had true Optimist spirit!
