SANGSTER: Heather Elizabeth Templeton of Hensall

September 26, 2023 By Haskett Funeral Home 30 Condolences

SANGSTER: Heather Elizabeth Templeton of Hensall

Beloved daughter of the late David and Janeth (Simpson) Sangster.

In the early morning hours of September 20, 2023, Liz was reunited with her heavenly family, parents David and Janeth, sister Gail, brother Davey, and her grandparents Robert and Sarah.

Left to mourn our brave and beautiful Liz are her sisters Pamela and Sheila, brother Robert, niece Stacey, and her feline friend, Tiggy.

Liz had many interests and devoted her time and talents to numerous community organizations and events; she never allowed her health challenges to stand in the way of giving one hundred percent of herself to the task at hand. She was a member of the Hensall Heritage Hall Committee and worked tirelessly to organize both fundraising events to restore the Hall and entertainment events at the Hall. She and her friend Luanne organized successful and entertaining parades for the Hensall Fair. Liz was also instrumental in developing, planning, and fundraising for the Jennie Smillie Parkette in downtown Hensall. Liz had a strong sense of history, an interest she shared with her mother and grandmother Simpson. She was a Director of the Huron County Historical Society and spent many hours researching projects for the Huron Historical Notes. She was also a member of the Bluewater Heritage Advisory Committee but sadly her illness and the pandemic made it increasingly more difficult to participate as fully as she would have liked. Liz was a prolific artist, her sketches and paintings featured beautiful floral and landscape themes and her sketches of family pets, family members and events have become treasured souvenirs. Liz’s garden was her lifelong passion. She was a member of the Bluewater Community in Blooms Committee for many years. She studied to become a Master Gardener at Dalhousie University and was a member of the Stratford Master Gardeners. She was also a former President of the Hensall and Community Horticultural Society, a former Director of District 8 of the Ontario Horticultural Society and a speaker and accredited Flower Show judge. Recently her personal garden was recognized by the Canadian Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife-friendly Habitat.

We would like to thank Liz’s dear friends Luanne Phair and Martha and Lloyd for their love and kindness to her, especially during her most recent illness, it meant so much to her to have you in her life and to know that you were there for telephone chats, texts and in-person visits. Thank you to Doug and Diane Klopp for spending time with Liz visiting in the hospital over the last few months. Thank you to Jeremy for helping Liz through a difficult post-operative recovery. Special thanks to the Respiratory Techs at LHSC, you were outstanding in your compassion, professionalism and care of Liz and always took the time to chat and explain. Thank you to Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. Thank you to Kim MacLean and staff for your frequent legal advice and guidance. To Michael Haddad of Hensall Pharmacy, thank you for your assistance with our many questions and requirements over the past few months. Thank you to our neighbours, Doug Hulley, Steve and Shelley Bedard and the McClincheys, your generous acts of kindness are appreciated very much during what has been a very difficult few years.

Liz’s passing has left a void in our lives and our family that can never be filled. She had so many hopes and plans she wanted to achieve. Her last wish was to be at home again with us, to look out the window at her garden. She can see her garden now and we will all be together again someday. Love you so much.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter on Saturday, September 30th from 11 AM – 1 PM. The graveside service will be held following the visitation at 2:15 PM at Baird’s Cemetery, 39254 Roman Road, Brucefield.

Honour Liz’s memory by trying to be a better person. If memorial donations are desired, please make one to a charity of your choice.

    Pam, Sheila, Rob and Stacey,
I am deeply saddened to hear of Liz’s passing. She overcame many obstacles and faced each with determination and a passion to achieve her goals. Her many and varied interests led her to accomplish much in serving her community as well as areas which extended beyond home and community. You can be proud of who she was and what she did, but I’m sure that most of all you will miss her as a loving sister and aunt. In your time of sadness may God comfort you and bring you peace.

Rest In Peace, sweet Lizzie. You fought the good fight and have earned your eternal rest. As difficult as it is to say good-bye, knowing that you are now and forever free of pain and restored to the beautiful person that you were gives me comfort and allows me to remember the good times, of which there were many. I was privileged to be able to call you a friend.
