June 8, 1926 – April 11, 2022
Just short of his 96th birthday Jack left his earthly cares behind to join the love of his life Shirley (2016) on the heavenly dance floor. He left this world to the sounds of Glen Miller so we know that he was ready to ask his bride for the next dance.
Jack was husband and soulmate of his beloved Shirley (Cobleigh) for 65 years. He was proud of his children: Pat (Cora), Wendy (Larry), Tracey (Don) and Tim (Sandy). He loved his grandchildren: Katerina (Ben) Patrick, Jake (Janessa), Liz (Nelson), Nikki, Rachel (Shawn), Abby (Greg), Drew, Chris, (Nicole), Jacqueline (Alex) and great-grandfather to Erik, Alice and Max.
During his single years, while helping his father with the farm, Jack tried his hand at different jobs– hauling apples, cream truck driver and butcher. When he married Shirley, he settled down and took over the family farm on the 16th concession. Together they raised their family there until 1974 when he sold the farm and built a new home on highway 7. Jack then worked for Murphy Bus Lines. Jack always said he felt fortunate that he had never had a job he didn’t like. As he neared retirement, he and Shirley managed the newly built Lions Parkview Place in Lucan where they later lived. He and Shirley loved to camp and travelled across North America. Jack was a people person, who chatted with everyone he met. They made many friends along their travels, returning to campgrounds to meet with friends each year. Jack served on numerous boards and committees in the local community. For many years his trademark was his pipe. He is the only member of the London Township Mutual Insurance board to set himself on fire while chairing a board meeting when he put his lit pipe in his jacket pocket.
He and Shirley were tireless volunteers. For many years their summers were planned around the dates of the Lucan Fair, as they both played key roles in its operation. For more than 40 years Jack was a proud Lucan Lion and held positions from president to Zone Chairman. He was recognized for his devoted service and received the Melvin Jones Fellow award from Lions International in 2012 and a lifetime membership from the Lucan club.
A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 14th at 2 PM. Interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Lucan Community Memorial Centre (Active Living Centre), 263 Main Street, Lucan on Saturday, June 4th from 1 – 4 PM. The big laugh that Jack he was known for will be missed. The family wishes that everyone will raise a glass, tell a story about Jack and have a laugh.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Craigwiel Gardens or the Lucan Community Memorial Centre Renovation Project (cheques payable to Township of Lucan Biddulph – Renovation).

Uncle Jack had the best laugh I ever heard in my life. My best memory of all the family picnics is Uncle Jack and I winning the watermelon eating contest. Uncle Jack had to hold a ring of watermelon, and I had to eat it with no hands. It sure was messy and Uncle Jack laughed the whole time. You always knew if he was telling a story about anything it would be interesting. And everyone would be listening to find out just how the tale would end.
