Peacefully with family by his side, at Jessica’s House on September 10, 2022 of Exeter at the age 74. Devoted husband of Marilyn (Hamilton) Chappel for 36 years. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Peter Pryde (Patricia) of Hensall and Peggy Ruthven (Alex) of St. Clair, MI. and Larry Hamilton (Janice) of Exeter. Loving stepfather of Sherri Kyle of Seaforth and Dawn Brown (John) of Hensall. Loving Uncle of Kristine Moyer (Don) of Blenheim. Proud grandfather of Amanda Donaldson (Ryan), Skylar Kyle, Harley Kyle (Brianna) and Nicholas Brown (Natasha) and 3 great grandchildren. Nephew of Laura Boyle (“from cradle to grave”) of London and Marjorie Pryde of Oakville. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Hazel Pryde, in-laws Jim and Amanda Hamilton, brother-in-law Richard VonDrasek and nephew Michael Pryde.
During John’s working years he and Marilyn enjoyed 23 wonderful years of cottage life at beautiful Mid Huron Beach, in Port Albert. After 35 plus years at General Coach in Hensall, Ontario and Oliver B.C., they relaxed for 13 great winters at Casa Del Lago in Avon Park, FL.
In keeping with John’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Exeter Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Logan, Dr. Lang, Dr. Jadd and staff, the Stratford chemo team, nurse Charlene from St. Elizabeth, the staff at South Huron Hospital and the staff at Jessica’s House for their kind and professional care. If desired, donations to LHSF – Cancer Program or Jessica’s House would be appreciated.

Sorry to here of John’s passing. My deepest Condolences to his family. I knew John from my days playing Sr Hockey with the Exeter Mohawks. I was proud to be apart of that team and to be associated with such a great organization. Our success was a direct reflection of the dedication the Mohawk executive members such as John had. We were so saddened to hear about John’s passing. I have a lot of good memories of piling in the car and driving to Exeter to see the Prydes. Though John was older than us, he was always patient and kind to his younger cousins. He never lost that gentleness in his manner, much like his father, though that twinkle in his eye was definitely from Aunt Hazel! Our deepest condolences to all of you through this difficult time. He will be greatly missed. Love to you all. Chris and John
