PROWSE: James (Jim) Wiley of London

Suddenly at LHSC-University Hospital, London, on Monday, June 3, 2019 of London, at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Barbara (Cook) Prowse. Loving father of Christopher and Rebecca Prowse of Indianapolis. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Ruth and Ronald Whitehead, Lynda and Gary Smith, Douglas and Debbie Cook all of London, David and Dawn Cook of Southhampton, Merry Cook of Quesnel, British Columbia, and Mary-Lou Sabatine of London. Missed by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Doris Prowse, and brothers- in-law, Robert Cook and John Cook. Jim was a long time insurance appraiser and a founding member of the Southern Ontario Street Rod Association;   He loved his winter vacations in Lake Havasu. Jim was always willing to tell you his opinion, be it good or bad and that tended to endear him to most people.

A celebration of life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Thursday, June 6th at 1 PM. Cremation with interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

I googled Jim Prowse, car builder in London, Ontario and found out he had passed. He is remembered and talked of in our house, and on FB amongst car peeps. We bought his 1957 Ford Del Rio (orange/silver) in 2004, or earlier. Still in our garage, up on a hoist. Please accept our belated condolences for his passing. Very sad indeed.

Woodward Dream Cruise, Detroit News, Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Route 66, frozen custard, Cracker Barrel, Gallerie 454, Patio Espanol , San Francisco, Mirthmobile and a green ’50 Olds coupe. These are all the things that I think about when I think about Jim and Barb.
Jim built the coupe sold it to Mark & Marylouise Doren for their daughter, Erin while she was junior in high school. The next 4 years the Olds sat in their garage while Erin was attending college. Mark decided to sell the Olds when Erin was accepted to medical school. Erin is now a plastic surgeon. Erin had a special license plate – Mirthmobile because this Olds makes everyone smile. She has the plate because we live in San Francisco and I still have the green Olds. However, Erin has first right of refusal if i ever decide to sell the Olds. Jim built a car that has connected all of us forever. We did attend the Dream Cruise several times with Jim & Barb and are still connected to the Dorens’. I purchased the “50 Olds in 2004.
‘The ’50 Olds continues to bring smiles and twinkles in their eyes whenever anyone see the ’50 Olds. So, Jim continues to bring joy through the Mirthmobile. Thank you Jim we’ll never forget you.

Our deepest sympathies are with the Prowse family. Jim was a true mentor to me and anyone who would look to him for advice, always willing to pass on his knowledge and never expecting anything in return.. The classic car and hot rod world has lost a true ambassador but his legacy will forever live on in our hearts.
    Rest easy my friend.

So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. It’s likely been forty years since we met and over that time I always enjoyed our encounters , first doing appraisal work, then , later, as a competitor when we wandered into the appraisal business. Never a time where we didn’t leave a meeting with Jim without looking forward to “next time”. I am certain that I will join many others who are saddened to know we won’t have that pleasure going forward.
    RIP Jimmy

    Barb & family,
thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. It is difficult to sum up who Jim was to so many people. To me and my family he was always willing to jump in and offer help, no what how busy he was. To our 3 kids who are now grown up he was “Uncle Jim” who would made sure they had a pop and lots of pinball games at the London Auto Modifiers club house whenever I would bring them along with me to work on a vehicle. I will miss his sense of humour as well his vast knowledge in just about everything you asked him.
He was truly a gentleman and he will be MISSED.

Thanks for being that kind of friend to me. Thanks for being you. May you rest in peace. You will always be in our thoughts. Love Syl & Shirley
