NORTON: Paul of Exeter

October 23, 2014 By Haskett Funeral Homes 47 Condolences

NORTON: Paul of Exeter

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Paul Norton, age 69, peacefully at his residence in Exeter on October 22, 2014 with his loving wife of 26 years, Judy (Mock); his daughter Heidi and his constant 4 legged companion Molly by his side.

Paul leaves behind his daughters Heidi Norton (Grandson Kaiden) and Holly Norton, both of London.

Paul will be deeply missed by his loving brother and best friend, Wayne and sister-in-law Wendy of London.  Nieces Amanda (Dan) Hendriksen and their children Ben & Megan of Thorndale and Jill (Joel) Gillard of London.  Predeceased by his parents Bill and Lorraine.

Paul enjoyed life. He enjoyed his hockey, Nascar, snowmobiling and had a passion for travel.  He loved the cottage at Windy Hill but nothing made him happier than spending time with Judy, Molly and his friends and family. Paul was a high pressure pipeline welder for over 35 years at T.W. Johnstone in London. Not being one to sit still he also drove for Huron Tractor after retirement.

To Dr. Teeple, Staff at CCAC, the PSW’s, Physiotherapist and Nursing Staff – you all played an important roll in making Paul’s life more manageable.  Your kindness, dedication and wonderful care was appreciated and will always be remembered.

A special thank you to our Dear Friends for your love and support.  Your continuous acts of kindness, care and concern, especially over the past few months, including the visits, phone calls and the many wonderful meals were so appreciated by both Paul and I and your thoughtfulness will be etched forever in my memory.  We could not have made this journey without you and my heart will be forever grateful.

At Paul’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  Cremation has taken place.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to ALS Research would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Judy, it has been a long and incredibly difficult road for you and Paul these past years. To watch a friend go through such a long and anguished decline is a very painful thing to do, and though we did not often see Paul in his last months, we never stopped thinking of him, and of you, one of the strongest and most dedicated partners any man could wish for. We feel relieved that finally Paul is in comfort , in a better place, and that you can now reset your life and hopefully relive all the good memories, and good times we had.

    Judy
I will always have great memories of the times we shared both in high school and then later. You have inspired me with the strength and grace that you have shown throughout this trying time in your life. It was great that you and Paul found each other again and had that time. You definitely belonged together.
The only blessing is that Paul is now pain free and that you are released from having to see him suffer.
As others have said it well take it one day at a time and I will hope to see you soon,
    Love always
    Les

Our thoughts are with you & Wayne’s family at this time. We were so lucky to have you & Paul as neighbors. He was always so energetic & loved a good party of which you had many. When he was working he used to come home & then come & check on us every day to make sure we were ok & if we needed anything. Judy, your complete devotion to caring for Paul was so inspirational. He loved you so much & always said how lucky he was to have you. He suffered so much with a terrible disease. I know he was ready & now his suffering is done. May he rest in peace. We love you & will see you in the summer & I will call you soon
    .

I was so sadden to read about Paul’s passing in the paper. I used to work at Hansen’s grocery store in Exeter. Paul used to come in quite often, and never failed to stop and say hello. I remember when he first told me he had been diagnosed with Al’s. Even as devastated as he was to learn this, he still had the same spunky attitude and humour as he always did. He was always a joy to talk to, and he will be missed by so many. I will keep you in my thoughts, as you walk through this incredibly hard journey during these next few days.

You will be missed dearly Paul. The first time we met you was on a Sunday night as we went for a walk through Windy Hill and you stopped us and invited us in to see your cottage and have a glass of wine with yourself and Judy. You were a very giving person also as when we were putting our boat hitch together you were the first one to offer and do the welding on it and it was a fine welding job.

Judy and family – I was so sad to hear of Paul’s passing. You probably don’t remember me but Paul used to stop in at my welding shop in Birr occasionally for a visit and in fact I did some work for Paul a number of years ago. He was a fantastic welder, so informed and friendly. He will be sadly missed. Hold onto your pleasant memories that you both had, and always keep his memory in your heart.
