MOORE: Ronald ‘Ron’ of Exeter
Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On April 2, 2024 @ 5:42 PM In Exeter,Obituary | 193 Comments
1950-2024
Peacefully, surrounded by his family at Jessica’s House on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Loving and devoted husband and best friend to Marlene (Overholt) Moore for over 56 years. Father and guiding light to Melissa and John Van Roestel of Lucan and Shawn and Jamie Moore of Barrie. Always an example and inspiring proud grandpa to Rachel Van Roestel (Stephen Sloetjes), Theodore Van Roestel, Adrian Van Roestel (Elyse Hodgins); and Audrey Moore. Spoiling rights to his great-granddaughter Evelyn Anne Sloetjes. Dear brother of Lloyd Moore (Carol), Barbara Eisenschink, and Bob Moore (Cathy) and brother-in-law of Helen Overholt, Laura Overholt, Martin Overholt (Laura), Elaine Hayter (Tom), and Pauline Overholt-Tait (Brad). Ron was a fun loving uncle and will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Cliff and Audrey (Prance) Moore, parents-in-law Victor and Veronica (Maloney) Overholt, and brothers-in-law George Eisenchink, Garry Overholt, Glen Overholt, and special friend Heather Kirchgessner.
Ron had many passions and hobbies throughout the years which included the Holy Mass, his families and friends, music (especially the blues), dancing, shopping (snoopin’), yard sailing, traveling, and biking. He had a love for food. From attending the Moore family fish fry’s, to growing the hottest peppers and making the best salsa. You could find him eating out locally, especially in Florida, where he enjoyed the sunrises to the sunsets in his home in Saddlebag. He will be truly missed by his many friends there – especially those who he shot pool with everyday (except Sundays)!
Throughout the years Ron played, coached, and refereed many hockey and soccer games. He enjoyed playing tennis and baseball and was proud to have coached the first ever South Huron Hospital Ladies Slowpitch team with his friend Tom Bowen. Grandpa Ron was the loudest fan in the stands. Especially at his grandson’s hockey games. Of course, every goal scored against Adrian will be forever the referee’s fault.
Ron could always be seen on the shores of Lake Huron gathering driftwood and collecting beach glass, making something uniquely beautiful for the special people in his life. He enjoyed collecting seashells in the golf of Florida, turning them into magnificent keepsakes.
Ron’s passion was working in his shop, making beautiful cheese boards, oak furniture, and modern live edge oak tables. He enjoyed camping with his wife and friends in his beautiful motor home. Audrey, his granddaughter, can tell you about the dance party she once held while holidaying with them in Grand Bend.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors and fishing with his son, his brothers, and his friend Jim Jarrett and loved snow showing with his daughter Melissa. He cherished the peaceful time spent with her on those cold winter days as the sun danced on the snow drifts of the Ausable Trail. Boating was a passion and he enjoyed his own boat – The Ga2Sea (his namesake). Later, Ron loved to sit back and relax as his son Shawn and his family cruised him around the islands of Georgian Bay, until the beautiful sun would set in the west. He always loved a fast ride in the zodiac Captained by his granddaughter Audrey. He also would cheer her on as she dance competitively.
Although he was a loud spectator, Ron also had a quiet side. Enjoying puzzling, watching hockey and baseball games, and going to movies. He was a community man. When he retired, he volunteered at Jessica’s House. He was honoured to be invited to sit on the Precious Blood Catholic Church Building committee. Until his illness he was active in the church as an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus, participating in many fundraisers efforts for both groups.
Ron held many licenses: Gas fitter, Oil Burner Mechanic, Water and Sewer Treatment, and was a Linesman and Plumber celebrating 31 years of service to the PUC and South Huron Municipality. He greatly enjoyed his many employers and fellow employees. Always with a happy swagger, the ladies on main street enjoyed watching from their storefront windows as handsome healthy Ron jaunted-on-by heading home from work to greet his Marlene. After retirement he still worked and enjoyed being a ‘trucker’ for his Bro Tom Hayter at Hayter Turkey Farms.
He will be missed and always remembered.
Marlene and family would like to thank the doctors at London Regional Cancer Program (Dr. Nichols, Dr. Palma), South Huron Hospital nurses and staff, Dr. Patel and Dr. Lam, and all the nurses, staff, and volunteers at Jessica’s House, Exeter for their care and compassion. They would also like to thank Father Tony, the CWL, the choir under the leadership of Theresa Van Ray, the Knights of Columbus, and the Haskett Funeral Home staff for their assistance and professionalism during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Thursday, April 4th from 3 – 7 PM. A private funeral mass will be held at Precious Blood Church, EXETER. A recording of Ron’s funeral mass will be posted Sunday at www.facebook.com/haskettfh. Private family interment Exeter Cemetery.
Donations to Jessica’s House, South Huron Hospital Foundation, or the Precious Blood Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.

Marlene, Melissa, Shawn & families. So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts & Prayers are with you at this very difficult time.
I’m among those whose fond memories of Ron go ‘way back to childhood – meeting up with him on Edward Street to walk, and then bike together to school, followed soon after with hockey and scrub games.
Best I step up — take blame or credit — for being the one who came up with the name Gatoozie (sp?) – for which no meaning is either available or required: It’s enough that Gatoozie liked it, just as so many liked him – so evident in the condolences posted.
Ron was a good guy – good and solid person. He was warm and he was fun and fun-loving, and I remember being with and around him — on the ice, on the street, or on the diamond — just always felt good and right.
Lloyd, Barbara and Bob and all those closest to you: I am very sorry for your awful loss, and hope you take comfort in the days ahead from knowing how fondly Ron is remembered by so many – even going right back to Edward Street.
Marlene & Family,
We are thinking of you in this very sad time.

Ron was always the “cool” dad. I’ve been lucky to know him as I’ve grown from Melissa’s high school friend to Rachel’s godmother. Ron was the kind of man to enfold you into his family if you were friends with one of his. I got to know him as more than the cool dad though; he was a wonderful model of active, gentle parenting. The world needs more Ron Moore’s; Exeter was lucky it got him. I have many memories over my life and will continue to hold them dear to me, especially his birdhouse which sits perched on our fence. Looking at it always gives me good vibes. My heartfelt condolences to Marlene, Melissa & Shawn (and their families). ❤️
