MALONEY: Jean (Smith) of Exeter, formerly of Dublin

Jean passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family, at Jessica’s House on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the age of 78. Cherished wife of James Maloney for 57 years. Proud mother of Colleen Crocker, Mary Hulley, and Patty Carroll (Ryan). Adored grandma of Tyler (Hailey), Matthew and Noah (Mirissa) Carroll, Cole (Laura) and Braden Hulley and Sam (Sloan) and Grace Crocker and great grandma of Andi and Jones Carroll, Theo and Jax Hulley and Margo Crocker.

Dear sister and sister-in-law of George and Cleo Smith, Raymond and Mary Catherine Smith, Sister Joyce Smith, Donald and Darlene Smith, Gord and Cecelia Smith, Marg and Jim Kendall, Donna Lesperance, Helen Creces, Bob and Trudy Smith, Dorothy Smith, Mary Smith, Anne Kelly, Butch and Helen Regier, and Sharon Maloney. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents; Adelbert and Laura (Wilds) Smith, her siblings and their spouses; Lloyd and Doris Smith, Russell and Rita Smith, Ralph and Audrey Smith, Leo Smith, Bill and Madeline Smith, Gerald and Pauline Smith, Eileen and Tom Sloan, Ed Smith, and Jim Smith and her in-laws Ed Lesperance, Ferg Kelly, Marie and Art Gelinas, Jim Doyle and Francis Maloney.

Jim and Jean spent many happy years farming in McKillop before settling in Dublin where Jean worked as a custodian at the school. She loved spending time with her large family. One of Jean’s greatest pleasures was playing cards … whether it was Friday night euchre parties on the farm with friends, weekends with family around the kitchen table or with her friends at their most recent home in Exeter. Many hours were spent in games of Rummy or Crib with Jim. Laughter, stories, food and drinks were always in abundance when she was around.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Tuesday, December 3rd from 4 – 7 PM.

Jean’s Funeral Mass will be held at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 200 Sanders Street West, EXETER on Wednesday, December 4th at 11 AM with Fr. Vince Gulikers presiding. A recording of Jean’s memorial mass will be posted at www.facebook.com/haskettfh on Wednesday afternoon.  Cremation with interment St. Columban Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory can be made to the South Huron Hospital Foundation or Jessica’s House and would be appreciated by the family.
