In 1975 two Girl Guides from my UK troop moved to Canada. They visited the UK a year later armed with their Guider’s address and a request for a penpal. As a young Guider I became that penpal and corresponded with Lois over 30+ years. I was privileged to meet her just once when she came to the UK on holiday in the nineties with Carol Ann. We felt like old friends straight away. Lois wrote elegantly and informatively and her handwriting was so beautiful that her letters were a pleasure to receive, often enclosing a little gift , in the early days Guide badges; once, maple leaf shoelaces!
I give thanks that I had the opportunity to know her.

Dear Carol Ann and Grant – I was a dear friend of your mother from high school in Tillsonburg to being a bridesmaid at her wedding. I had not seen her since an anniversary gathering a few years back. I had lived in Toronto and Niagara On The Lake and was so far away.
I am deeply saddened by Lois’ passing but I am reminded of fond high school memories and both our weddings in the 50’s.
I know she was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed. Blessings from Maybelle Ravin – Tillsonburg

    Grant, Vicky, Brian and Laurianne:

I’m so sorry for your loss and I want you to know I am thinking of you and what you and your family are going through. Please accept my condolences.

I only met your mother a few times but I remember her as being a very kind woman and making me feel quite at home when we jammed at your place in Mississauga. She didn’t seem to mind all of the racket we used to make playing Rush, Max Webster and other classic tunes.

I am sorry I won’t be able to make it to the funeral to convey my condolences in person but when you get back we’ll get together and we’ll have a drink in her honour.
