Lewis Stafford de Sausmarez Carey

Lewis Stafford de Sausmarez Carey, at his workplace of almost 20 years, LHSC-University Hospital, London on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Beverly (Baxter) Carey (2008). Dear father and father-in-law of Richard, Mark, John, Susan, David, Bonnie, Sandra, Alison, Janice and Angela. Opinionated grandfather (Papa Doc) of Kate, Lea, Phil, Jennifer, Michael, William, Little Serena. Predeceased by his sisters Rosalie Doig and Joan Donley. Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, July 9, 1925 he attended boarding school in Duncan on Vancouver Island and completed his undergraduate degree at UBC. He met his lovely wife in medical school at Queens University and shortly thereafter, moved to Minnesota where he raised his family, studied and practiced radiology. As chairman of radiology at the University of Western Ontario for 15 years, he was instrumental in organizing the first Canadian Telemedicine Project. His work proved to be the catalyst for the development of Satellite Health Services in Canada.

A memorial service will be held at the Birr United Church (Highway #4 and Thirteen Mile Road) on Friday, November 13th at 1:30 PM with Rev. Bill McAuslan officiating. Interment Birr United Cemetery has taken place.

Donations to Lower Thames Valley Conservation Foundation-Carey Carolinian Arboretum Project would be appreciated by the family. The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Foundation is a registered charity and tax receipts will be issued for all donations.

    I was sad to learn of Lew’s death. I was a member of the group of radiology residents that started training the summer he arrived as Chairman in London. All of us passed our exams on the first go and owe a debt to him. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Memorial Tree

Each year we hold a tree dedication ceremony at Morrison Dam in Exeter. We purchase a tree to be planted in memory of the lives lost from the previous year.

Our Service Coverage Area

Service AreaWe are always willing to go where called upon but this image shows a visual of the communities that our included in our initial transportation fee. We offer a 40km radius from any of our 5 locations (Arva (London), Exeter, Lucan, Seaforth, and Zurich). Any mileage beyond the included 40km will be charged a rate of $2.50/km (one way travel only).

Potential Additional Transportation Fees

$150 - If transport requires more than one person, additional fee charged per person required
$150 - If transport occurs outside Mon-Fri, 9-5 business hours
