1938-2024
It is with deepest sadness that we share the passing of Murray Lee at Jessica’s House Hospice on May 23, 2024. Waiting to welcome him at heaven’s gates were his parents Jean & Lyell Lee and sister Beth Marjama. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 62 years Jeanie Lee (Sutherland) who was his continual support through this journey, his brother George E, sister Phyllis Tomes (Tom), brother-in-law Bill Sutherland, as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved and admired. He was always ready to be a part of any family gathering or celebration. He was predeceased by a niece Milda, in-laws Gordon & Catherine Sutherland, Sydney Sutherland, Beatrice Lee and Gunnar Marjama.
Murray was a gentle man who was raised a farm boy with a hard work ethic that continued through his successful dairy farming career and in semi-retirement. His love of the land could always be seen in the lawn and gardens around his home (no dandelions on that lawn).
Murray was a lifelong member of Carlisle United Church where he served in several capacities and shared many happy rewarding times with his church family. Those lasting friendships were treasures that spanned many decades.
Murray had a passion for model trains and antique cars. He spent untold hours tinkering with the train set-up in his basement and cultivated his interest in classic cars through the Shriners classic car group. He had a love of sports having played baseball in his youth and the Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs were top of the list.
He was a very keen and active member of several fraternal groups having been a member of Craig Lodge # 574 for over sixty years. He was a past thrice puissant grand master of London Valley Scottish Rite 33 degree – in addition a member of Minnewawa Chapter R.A.M 78 GRC and Exeter Chapter # 222 Order of the Eastern Star for fifty years and until recently a member of Mocha Shrine classic car unit. These fraternal connections fostered many long lasting and cherished friendships which remained until his last day.
Most important to Murray were the gatherings he shared with family and close friends and he will be greatly missed by those who loved and respected him so deeply.
Special thanks is extended to Dr. Stephen Welch oncologist , Dr Michaela Ondrejicka, Dr. Ming Lam and all the awesome nurses and volunteers at Jessica’s house who provided exceptional care. St. Elizabeth nurse Charlene was always a ray of sunshine when doing her house visits.
Visitation will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Friday, May 31st from 4:00-7:30 PM and again on Saturday, June 1st from 1:00-2:00 PM. Murray’s memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 2 PM with Jacqui Moraal officiating. An Eastern Star service will be held in the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:30 PM followed by a Masonic Lodge service at 8:00 PM. Cremation with interment in Carlisle Cemetery, Middlesex Centre.
Donations can be made to Jessica’s House, London Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Dyslexic Children, or a charity of your choice.
RIP Murray!! Sympathy to your good wife and relatives.
Please accept my condolences

Dear Jeanie, Phyllis, Tom, George and Murray’s family members,
We extend our love and sympathy to you all as you deal with the sad loss of Murray. He was a wonderful husband and brother, brother-in-law and Uncle, and a dear friend to many. Murray and Jeanie were a perfectly matched pair who did so much for their Church, The Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic, Shriners and Scottish Rite communities to raise money for many, many Charities. Whether it was making meat pies, helping with catering, decorating 15 plus Christmas trees inside their home and Lights galore outside and then inviting the public in to enjoy the beauty…or having weekly Choir practices and then enjoying the fellowship after, we will miss his laughter and jokes, and being asked “How you are?!”. We will always remember him with a smile and appreciate the opportunity we were given to be blessed with our friendship with such a kind, unassuming and gentle man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
My sincere condolences to the Lee and Sutherland families and especially to you Jeanie. Murray was a great guy and will be missed by many. Thinking of you Jeanie at this sad time, hoping your many memories of happier gatherings and celebrations help fill the void you will feel now.
Hugs, Janet
Murray was such a go-to-man! Anything that needed to be done, he got it done. Repairs at church, making meat pies, catering, help decorating Christmas trees, driving his convertible at Ilderton Fair for dignitaries, hosting parties are just a few. Murray was your great partner Jeanie. He will be missed but not forgotten

Thinking of you Jeanie and the times spent at your farm as a child. I always think of you and Murray when driving down the Denfield road and where we would turn to go to the farm. Your home always so pretty and the and the annual drives past your home on Huron St. at Christmas with my kids and now grandkids to enjoy all the lights and displays. Murray will be missed.
