It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James (Jim) McCollum Knox, on February 17, 2023 at the age of 73. Born in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland his family immigrated to Canada at the age of 8. Jim graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, before meeting the love of his life and starting a family. Jim was known for his light-hearted humour and compassionate soul, always a gentleman.
Loving and devoted husband to Patty (Dayman) for over 45 years. Proud father of Danielle and Steve Kacheff; and Matthew Knox and Suzanne Brydges. Loving Grandpa to his incredible grandchildren Olivia Kacheff and Ryan Knox. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Sarah (Hamill) Knox, he is survived by his sisters Betty and Irene and brother Oral. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and the Dayman family
A private family service will be held. Cremation with inurnment, Exeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation in Jim’s name.

I was so sad to hear about Uncle Jim. I have such wonderful memories of him from my childhood. He had such a calming and thoughtful presence and so smart!! He was someone I always tried to model my behaviour from. He truly had a significant impact on me even though most exposure was in my child/teen years. I cherish that impact!

Jim and I once had a great adventure when we were very young.
We had gone fishing at the Morrison Dam and were sitting a few feet apart on the river bank with our lines in the water when we heard a rustling sound in the grass behind us. As we both turned to see what it was two large (for us) snakes emerged from the grass. Paying no attention to Jim and me, they quickly slithered between us, entered the water and were gone. They were so close to us we could have easily touched them as they went by. It happened so fast we had no time to react. But it left us in shock for the rest of the day.
Every time I go to the Morrison Dam I think of the day Jim Knox and I had a close encounter there with two large snakes.
Mrs Hughson introduced a new boy into our grade 5 class. It was Jim.
Lifelong friendships are precious and rare. Lifelong wisdom and advice even rarer.
Today Ava and I share greatly in your s
Sadness.
Rest in peace Jim.
