August 13, 2024 By Haskett Funeral Homes 58 Condolences

HERN: Tom of RR 1 Woodham

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Jessica’s House, Exeter on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the age of 86. Cherished companion of Rida Fink. Proud dad of Lisa Hern and John Price, Michael and Andrea Hern, Brenda and John Smith, and Bradley and Amy Hern. Loving grandpa of Wyatt (Tressa); Katie (Kurtis), Cody (Stacie), Niki (Dan), Matt; Brittany (Alex), Thomas (Sara); Emmett, and Will and “old grandpa” of Cadie, Braxton, Kherington, Weston, Teagan, Addison, Hallie, and Ashton. Fondly remembered by his furry companion Lady. Dear brother of Alma, Wayne, Barb, Sheila, and Alan. Dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and Rida’s family. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Olga Hern, sister Muriel, brothers Ron, and Lorne.

Tom spent his entire life farming on the Hern Line in Usborne Township. He was proud to lead 4 H for many years, sat on the Fair Board, and was a director on Huron Perth Feeder Finance. Tom was a fantastic dancer and always enjoyed going out on the town. He had an innate ability to turn Limousin calves into champions in the show ring. He taught his family how to make his prize-winning maple syrup which won many ribbons at the fair.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Sunday, August 18th from 1 – 4 PM with word’s of remembrance at 2:30 PM. Interment Zion Cemetery.

Donations to Jessica’s House, 4 H Ontario, or Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated by the family.

I have lots of wonderful memories growing up with ‘Uncle Tom’. He was always happy to see us kids and he would always wave driving by when we were outside playing. He really did make the best maple syrup!

We often refer to the ‘Uncle Tom genes’ in our household, as my kids are growing so tall.

Sincere condolences and big hugs to his family – you are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

    Jennifer, Andre, Nolan & Sophie

Rida, Lisa, Michael, Brenda and Bradley and families.
I was saddened to hear of Uncle Tom’s passing.
I have many fond memories of growing up on Hern Line across from Uncle Tom.
Brenda and I would often walk back and forth to visit each other.
I would often see Uncle Tom on his tractor.
The smoke coming from the pipe on the shed could be seen during Maple Syrup season.
While delivering the mail I had some good talks with Uncle Tom. He would always ask me how the children were.
May you hold onto your memories as you grieve the loss of your father.
Love : Lynne, Aldane, Jordann, Abbi, Jason and Jericho Haughton
