Knowing your mother, your father, Sandy and Joan and your grandparents goes back years to school days, Opera House dances, and living on the (4th of Biddulph) across the road from the Ankers as special. A life well lived to 87th year makes Betty extra special. Memories making me laugh and cry as you do the same. My thoughts are with you. Condolences. Audrey

    August 26, 2012 at 10:21 AM

Dear Linda, Brian and Janet and all the family, close and extended.
There has always been one constant fear that I have had since the time that I retired from Holy Trinity, and that has been that I would not be able to attend the funeral of the members of the congregation that have been so very close to my heart, and Patricia’s heart too. I can think of no one more close to us than Betty. We have just returned to the Church Camp and cottage on Friday evening, and have promised to entertain the congregation after church this morning.
I have had two surgeries this summer, which have drastically curtailed much of my ability to get around. The shoulder surgery was the most limiting, and I have much more to do (therapy wise) to finish the cure. I have still a great deal of pain and discretion tells me that I must not be too anxious to go everywhere. The long and the short of this is that Pat and I cannot come on Monday even though that thought is painful and the desire is to be with you all. Please accept our most sincere apologies. If it wasn’t for the limitations noted, we would have driven in the middle of the night to be with you. You are so much in our prayers and thoughts.
I took the service and preached this morning at 8:30 am and you can be sure that Betty was on my mind and heart at that service.
We will be at the cottage until Labour Day. When we get back, Pat and I will be in touch with you.
Nothing has given me more pain than having to write this letter. Betty was so special to the parish and us. Her gifts to us, not just of the things she did for us, but for her ever caring and giving heart formed the very soul of my ministry among the people of Holy Trinity. Both of you, and the whole family are also very precious friends to us as well. It gives us joy every time we meet. Thank you all for everything that you have been for our family and us.
A line in the psalm prayer today went as follows.
“Teach us to recognize your dwelling place in the love, generosity, and support of those with whom we share our journey.” She was a wonderful companion to have on our journey. I used that line in my sermon this morning, and told the congregation about Betty and her generous and loving heart. She was a blessing to me, to you, to us, and the world.
    Your loving friends in Christ.
Bruce, Pat, Lawrence, David and family

Another pillar of our community has passed.
I remember when Betty pitched for our girls’ softball team at the old ball diamond at Beech St. and Market St.
I remember when Betty and Don sang in Holy Trinity Choir every Sunday service and Betty taught Sunday School.
I remember the many years Betty greeted everyone at the Post Office
with her friendly smile and a hello.
I remember her great interest in our local heritage and her great contribution to its becoming Lucan Area Heritage that dreamed of sharing our heritage in a museum.
Yes, Betty will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy Linda and Brian and families.
