ELDER: Dorothy (Voisin) of Exeter

August 19, 2019 By Haskett Funeral Homes 27 Condolences

ELDER: Dorothy (Voisin) of Exeter

Peacefully surrounded by family, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Monday, August 19, 2019 of Exeter at the age of 98. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Harold Elder (1997). Dorothy was a loving mother of Sheron Elder and David Gordon, Judith and Robert McCartney, John and Mary Elder, Scott Elder and Ling Chen, and Paul Elder and Sheila Jackson-Elder. She will be remembered with much love and admiration by her grandchildren: Kevin, Steven, Darren, Susanne, Krista, Rob, Jessica, Julian, Richard, Ryan, Kira, Jeffrey, Adam, and Samuel. She will also be remembered by her great-grandchildren: Justin, Tamsyn, Ashlynne, Matthew, Kailey, Geoffry, Darby, Daylen, Hillary, Aleicia, Christopher, Cole, Jacob, and Rachel. Dorothy also leaves behind eight great-great grandchildren: Lily, Brooke, Carson, Reegan, Faith, Ethan, Emmett, and Eila. Predeceased by her parents Matilda and Alex Voisin.

Dorothy was a role model and mentor for many young women. She was a farmer at heart but she was also an adventurer. Dorothy and Harold, both of whom had their pilot’s license, flew to all but 4 of the states in the continental United States, most of the Canadian provinces and to Nassau and Mexico. They flew to Tuktoyaktuk more then once! They both held positions with the Ontario Flying Farmers.

As a young woman, Dorothy was a mother’s helper and was a mid-wife and even delivered her baby sister! Although she was a private person, she loved to talk about all her experiences. She was quiet, witty and strong. She will be sadly missed by her family and many good friends.

Special thanks go to the wonderful staff at South Huron Hospital, and the Exeter Villa.

Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or any charity of your choice. The family would love to hear any stories, memories or lessons learned from Dorothy or Harold. These will become part of a book of memories which is being developed.

It was an honour and a pleasure having Dorothy be part of our lives at Exeter Villa. Although more of a private personality, her love for life shon through her eyes as they sparkled when she spoke. Dorothy was a well respected and mist gracious lady who will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Wishing the family many fond and warm memories.
On behalf myself and the staff and friends at the Villa.

It was always a pleasure to meet up with Dorothy, while out and about in the community. She was always such an upbeat lady. I had the pleasure of being one of her home sew-ers for a time, putting together a few ‘sets of sheers’ a week. Once, Dorothy invited me over to help ‘sort out’ a smocked dress for a great-grand daughter. I really enjoyed the visit… (such an accomplished seamstress). We hope that the memories of a life well-lived give you comfort.

    Sincere Condolences
