DYKSTRA: John of Middlesex Centre

June 1, 2024 By Haskett Funeral Homes 21 Condolences

DYKSTRA: John of Middlesex Centre
Just as the blazing crimson sun set on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, John Dykstra took his last breath, passing away peacefully with family at his side.
John was a man of steel whose problem solving and mill writing skills were second to none. His intelligence, wit, humour, bravery, way with words, and facility operating machinery and equipment will be greatly missed.  These skills served him very well throughout his career in the construction and trucking industries and working on the farm.  Being the father, friend, neighbour, and co-worker who could repair any piece of machinery and fabricate anything out of steel will be sorely felt going forward.
John was a great storyteller who enjoyed reading about and watching history documentaries and singing along to old time country music and early rock and roll.  He also loved getting together with old chums to reminisce about their younger years when his 1972 Oldsmobile 442 was the undefeated king of speed.
Not often one to show his soft side, John, at his core was a good-natured, generous, and well meaning man known for helping family, friends and neighbours in need, draping blankets on his children and grandchildren when they took naps, being a great sport and happily playing along during card games even when his children and grandchildren took liberties with the rules to ensure their own wins, and never missing the opportunity to give his cherished pet dogs a good old belly rub and a treat. He absolutely loved home cooked meals and always looked forward to Shirley’s oven-fresh birthday cakes.
John will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Shirley, children Tom and Bev, and grandchildren Drake, Sophia, Odie, and Gina.  John was predeceased by his father Tom, mother Ena, brother Cecil, infant Sister Margaret, and daughter Angie.

A private family Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lucan. Cremation has taken place.

Donations to LHSF – Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
