Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On April 14, 2022 @ 9:25 AM In Obituary,Seaforth | 162 Comments
Kenneth L. Doig of Seaforth, affectionately nicknamed “Balding” passed away April 19 just a few weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. Ken grew up in Seaforth, played junior hockey throughout Ontario, and then played pro for nearly 10 years in Perth, Scotland where as a “Panther” he was a standout at rinks across the UK before finishing up in Switzerland. While in Scotland Ken added two new loves to his life, Mary Powell and golf. Ken dedicated himself to both and had great success on the links of Scotland including qualifying for and playing in the Open at St. Andrews. Ken returned to his hometown in 1956 with his Scottish bride and three young children. He continued to have a successful amateur golf career representing his province and his country and still found time to add three more children to the family. He also played competitive hockey well into his 70’s with many a championship cup raised over the years. Ken and his brother, Rod, created the Seaforth Golf Club where his children and grandchildren along with golfers from far and wide enjoy the game.
Ken is survived by his children –
Carolanne Doig,
Gail Price (Bill) and their children Carly Price McKenzie (Pete) & great grandson, Fin
Reegan Price & Tara & great grandson, William
Kenneth A. Doig Jr,
Cameron Doig & wife, Linda and their children Robyn & Paul Doig
Ian Doig & wife Cathleen Carol
Todd Doig & wife, Ingrid and their children Ethan and Parker Doig
Nieces, nephews, cousins, & sisters in laws.
Predeceased by wife, Mary nee Powell, his father, Paul Doig and mother, Mae (nee McGeoch), siblings Eric, Roderick, and Robert.
A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held at the Seaforth Golf Club, 42990 Front Road, Seaforth on Saturday April 23, 2022 from 1 to 4PM with a time of remembrance at 2PM. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Homes, Seaforth (519-527-1390).
As expressions of sympathy a donation to Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice in Ken’s name is appreciated.
CA, Cam Linda, Robyn Paul, Todd Ingrid Ethan & Parker,

Sincere condolences on Ken’s passing. We played against each other in many hockey tournaments. When we were on the ice, it was serious business, but after the games, it was not so serious fun! Rest in peace, Kenny. Stan Ulrich, Forest, ON
Ken’s family and friends…our sincere sympathy to all. Ken will be missed by so many! His wonderful stories always were greeted with laughter and helped entertain many a golfer. His pride in the golf course, that he and his brother Rod worked so hard on, shone through his eyes every time you met him at the course. He has now joined his sweet Mary …RIP Ken.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Ken when Stan Ulrich and I visited him in Seaforth a couple of years ago. Stan had played hockey against Ken, and much to my surprise, Ken had played a lot of golf with my Dad, Hank Galloway, in Sarnia. Cherish all the great memories. Rest In Peace, Kenny.

Our deepest sympathies to all the members of the Doig Family. Take the time to reflect and hold the many treasured memories close to your hearts.
My sincere condolences to the Doig family on the passing of Ken Sr. He was one of the most fierce competitors I have ever known. The challenge matches we played at the golf course over the years will always be remembered. He was a pioneer for all the juniors at the golf course. We had many road trips to many tournaments and was always looking out for the juniors. The Balding Veteran would always talk to the organizers of the tournaments and told them to allow us to compete or he would not play.
Ken Sr will always be a special person to me and for what he has done for the game of golf.

Had so many great times with all of you. I have enjoyed every minute.
Ken Doig, lived such a great life, did many things, saw many things, excelled at many things – a rich full experience. And, what a wonderful raconteur, could tell a story like no other. Over a round of golf, cocktails, shooting pool, those intimate moments, gathered, chatting, sore from laughter – time well spent. He will be missed and his memory will live on.
We were saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. We sure will miss the great story teller, & we send our sincere condolences to the Doig family.
Rest in sweet peace dear ‘neighbour!’
Ron & Cheryle
Sincerest condolences to the Doig family on the loss of Ken Sr. During our time as members at Seaforth Golf Club, I always looked forward to the times spent with Ken sharing stories and laughs together. He loved seeing the boys (Matthew and Cameron) and was always full of interest and encouragement in what they were doing at the time. I am sure he will be dearly missed by the family as well as the members of the club. We wish you our prayers and sympathy during this difficult time.
Colin, Tammy, Matthew and Cameron Crombie
Our deepest sympathies to the Doig families. Ken was a person who greeted you with a smile and then proceeded to tell you a story that made you laugh and enjoy the moment that much more. He was a fierce competitor who played hard in his passions of hockey and golf and expected you to do the same. But when the contest was done it was over and time too enjoy each others company. He will be missed by many. Don and Elaine
My thoughts and sympathy to all the Doig Family. Although it goes back in time I knew and I have fond memories of both Ken and his Dad. Ken cut a wide swath both on and off the ice and golf course. He used to always called me Jessie.
Have a nice trip Ken from Jessie ( James )

The legendary Mr. Windows. I grew up watching Ken and the rest of the club founders share many a laugh together and always marveled that these folks knew how to really live. Our deepest condolences to the entire Doig family. Ken will be missed by all who knew him. He has left a wonderful legacy to his family and all his fellow golfers. Rest In Peace.
So saddened to hear the news of Ken’s passing. As a junior player I remember him watching the players come in the final holes and cheer us on. He loved the game of golf for sure and he passed along that passion to the entire family. I had the pleasure of catching up with Ken a few years ago when Todd was coaching Ethan and I my son’s high school curling teams in the Gore Finals. Todd and I bantered back and forth like high school kids ourselves and Ken was quick to comment any chance he could. It was a day I will never forget. Rest in peace Ken. To the entire family my deepest sympathy
Ken/Balding/Mr Doing
I will always remember; your warm greetings upon arrival at the club, your love of life, you holding court and telling jokes in the corner of the clubhouse, sharing amazing golf tips, and your artistry with that ugly bite wedge! Thanks for sharing your love of golf & the club with me and my family for so many years. I am so proud to have been married there! My thoughts and wishes to the extended Doig clan on behalf the California Leitch’s!
On behalf of the entire Nielsen family I wish to offer our condolences. As a boy growing up in Seaforth, Ken just seemed to be a natural part of that process. He was just always there, like a permanent fixture in town, either at the arena or the golf course. It is hard to imagine a Seaforth in his absence. Thank you Ken for always taking the time to stop and say hello. It meant so much to me and something for which I will always be grateful. Rest in Peace.
Respectfully,
Dennis Nielsen
We send our deepest condolences to the Doig Family. When we shared the news of Ken’s passing with our Dad yesterday, he was saddened and said he will be missed, but then he had a chuckle as he said there were so many great times over the years and that’s what life is all about.
Our Mom and Dad shared so many fun times over the years with Ken and Mary. From trips to Scotland, to playing hockey, grey cup parties, pyjama parties, Christmas parties, and the list goes on. So many wonderful times.
We noticed a photo with our Dad playing an accordion and Ken on guitar. We said to our Dad, we never knew you played the accordion…Dad just laughed.
Cherish the memories of a life well lived.
In deepest sympathy from Jack Muir and Family
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time and the days ahead .

You will all miss him but know that your memories and endless stories will keep him near.

Dear Doug family: on behalf of the Whitelaw family we offer our heartfelt condolences. Brother Bob and Ken go back to the early 60s as teammates and the beginning of a lifelong friendship that took the two of them so many places playing golf and telling stories.
Ken’s friendship with Bob brought quite a number of our family into their world. Several of the family would always come to Huron county to visit the course and hope to see some of the family.
Ken and Mary were so proud of their new home and enthusiastically toured Dianne and myself through shortly after moving.
Your many, many years of memories, stories and adventures with Ken will help you through this difficult time.
Your friends:
Dale and Dianne Whitelaw

My deepest condolences go out to the entire Doig family. Very sad to hear about Ken’s passing. Ken was always a mentor for me growing up, whether it was at the hockey rink, on the golf course or working. I always enjoyed being around Ken, hearing his incredible life stories, watching the Seaforth Beavers old timer hockey team growing up and being able to a play a few rounds of golf with him. I am very thankful for Ken and the entire family for providing the Seaforth Golf & Country Club to learn the game of golf and more. Thank you. He will be dearly missed.
Michael
