DINNEY: Ada Sybilla (Gaiser) of Exeter

Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On April 23, 2022 @ 9:31 PM In Exeter,Obituary | 82 Comments

DINNEY: Ada Sybilla (Gaiser) of Exeter

Peacefully at South Huron Hospital on April 22, 2022. Born in Shipka Ontario in 1922 she became a life long resident of Exeter after marrying her “one & only” Robert Charles Dinney who predeceased her in 1999 after 56 years of marriage.

Cherished mother of Susan Borrowman (Bob) of Kelowna BC, Bill Dinney (Cathy) of Exeter, the late Brenda Burchell (2019) (Bob) of Cambridge and Jon Dinney (Rae Ann) of St Joseph.

Loved by her grandchildren Max Borrowman (Rhiannon), Simon Dinney (Robin), Molly Learn (Josh), Bronwyn Forbes (Russ), Carly Burchell (Kevin), Paige Burchell (Ryan), Sunny Dinney (Geir Arne), Jayden Dinney (Ellen) and Maria Sheinberg (Mick). Fondly remembered by her step grandchildren Kyle Fusick (Steph) and Justine Fusick (Tim), Cody and Jessie Hensels, and her 11 great grandchildren.

Dear sister of Elsie Hermann and late sister in law Dinty Gaiser who just passed on April 23. Predeceased by brothers Art and Mel Gaiser, and by her grand daughter Shannon (1982). Also fondly remembered and loved by many nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a role model to many. They all remember her caring and welcoming ways.

Ada was a dynamic part of the Exeter community volunteering in many different ways. After their marriage in 1943, Bob was immediately sent overseas. During this time Ada worked as a trusted employee at the Bank of Montreal. She also volunteered as an Akela for the cubs. When Bob returned from overseas she left her job and took over a new job as mother to 4 kids all born within 5 years.

Ada was one of the founding members of the Huron Country Playhouse Guild 50 years ago, and also served in the hospital auxiliary and was on the Lioness committee involved in the redesign of Victoria Park. She was a lifelong honorary member in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and also has been a UCW member at Exeter United Church for many years. One of her many pleasures was decorating the front of the church for Sunday services. Her faith and her church were very important to her. Also she was thrilled to receive the Queen’s Jubilee medal for a significant contribution to her community in 2002 and the Huron Bruce Remarkable Citizen Award of 2017.

Ada and Bob together travelled to many parts of the world and Ada never turned down an opportunity to travel even after Bob was gone. She loved people and was always interested in a new adventure.

Her many interests included china painting of which there are many examples throughout her home. She had an immense Santa collection and her over 200 Santas were featured in an article in the Exeter Times Advocate. She loved her home and all the “stuff” in it. Almost every article in her home had a story and she also loved her garden which has always been an immense pleasure to her. Over the past 2 years she derived so much pleasure just looking out her windows admiring her past gardening efforts through the changing seasons.

If you visited Ada at her house you couldn’t help but notice how excited she was about any holiday. She has a huge amount of decorations for Christmas, Easter, St Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day and she really had a lot of fun with Hallowe’en. Ada was always up for a good laugh and a good time with friends and family. We will always remember her smile and laughter.

How can we be sad about a life so well lived for almost a hundred years?

The family would like to thank South Huron Hospital nurses and doctors and her family doctor, Dr. Sean Ryan for their kindness and excellent care of Ada. Also a special thanks to Vonnie Morgan who has been helping with Ada’s care over the past couple of months and to Ada’s other helpers Arron and Jen.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 370 William Street, EXETER on Tuesday, April 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Those attending are kindly asked to register. Please click “Register Now” below to register. A private family ceremony will be held on Wednesday April 27th at 2 PM. Although the service is private the family invites you to join with them from the comfort of your home. Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh.

If you chose, feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice. Ada would have loved a donation to Exeter United Church or South Huron Hospital Foundation.

I am going to miss Ada very much.

I always enjoyed my conversations with her very much, and that includes the last conversation I had with her earlier this year when I called her to inform her of my mother’s passing. Not only was Ada comfortingly sympathetic, she also generously shared with me warm memories (some of which were close to 70 years old!) of both my parents.

During our conversation she also mentioned that she would occasionally wonder about her own future here on earth. As we talked about that I remember thinking how wonderful it would be if Ada could live forever.

Condolence from Mark Heimrich on April 26th, 2022 3:55 AM

To all Ada’s Family;

WOW! What an amazing woman. My sincere sympathy to each of you. Ada was the epitome of a full life, VERY well lived. She was certainly a strong pillar of our community for so long and will be greatly missed. I first got to know Bob & Ada over 33 years ago when they purchased one of the first water distillers in Exeter from us for their Senior Street home. That lead to many nice visits with this awesome pair. After Bob’s passing Ada has remained a very valued customer and I got to know her even better. I’ve had dozens of visits with Ada, many with her sharing her wealth of knowledge of the people, life and times of our community. Photos, either vintage or current, were often part of her interesting stories along with her reading me excerpts of various things. She was so proud of her deep roots here and very proud of her entire family. I always tried to have at least one visit with Ada just prior to Christmas every year to see her vast “Santa/Father Christmas” collection displayed. I would not only consider Ada a very lovely lady but also a dear friend, whom I will miss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mark (& Julie) Heimrich & staff at Lifetime Water Products.
