Cameron James Flannigan

December 27, 2010 By Haskett Funeral Homes 50 Condolences

Cameron James Flannigan

After a valiant fight with cancer, at LHSC-Victoria Hospital on Sunday, December 26, 2010. Family members were by his side. Cam was 20 years old and lived with his family just outside the Granton community his entire life. Will be sorely missed by his parents, Kevin and Judy, siblings Kori, Nyan and Logan and grandmother Alice Paterson (Lawrence) and grandfather Bob Flannigan both of London. Shocked and saddened aunts, uncles and cousins are Lynda and Ken Carr and children Scott and Donna, Cynthia and Brian, James and Pam; Lynn Baines and children Jerry and Nina and Tammy and Rudy; Dan Flannigan and children Amy and Scott, Wes and Melanie, Stephanie and Jamie; Nancy Flannigan and Mike Cavanagh and children Jason, Craig and Sean; Susan Knutson and children Niall and Michelle; Dan Van Wyck and Suzanne Merriam and children Cassandra and Spencer; Elizabeth Van Wyck and Bill Smart and children Mia and Aly. Predeceased by grandmother Irene Flannigan and uncle Mike Baines.

Although young, Cameron enjoyed the things in life that any young person experiences. He played competitive soccer, where he learned the value of teamwork and friendships, thoroughly enjoyed his first job working on the farm for Tom Dobinson, and was a real believer in the importance of family, including the fun had at family reunions. Many competitive card games and online computer games were played in the Flannigan home with both family and friends. During his illness Cam remained an integral part of the family, giving directions and advice to his siblings from his bed in the living room. Cam indicated how nice it was when we had the snow days recently because the family had the opportunity to cozy up in front of the fireplace and just be together. Cameron loved his family. Cam’s death leaves a hole that it is impossible to imagine filling, but his zest for life and his grace and courage in handling his illness will be in our memories forever. Special thanks to friend Melanie Dodds who told us she would see us through the entire journey and remained true to her word. Also thanks to the community of Granton/Lucan – your kindnesses and generosity will be remembered by us always.

Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Friday 10 AM-12 Noon. Friends may gather at the Lucan Community Memorial Centre, 263 Main Street, Lucan on Sunday, January 2nd at 1:30 PM for a memorial service, which will be held at 2 PM with Pastor Todd Kaufman officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Donations to Ewings Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.

I lost my son last March to cancer. Obviously every youth battling the desease is special and unique, but I feel that by looking at your picture slide show that both Cameron and my son were among the most special and brave of fighters. I am truly saddened that another family has lost the bright and beautiful light in their lives, but I am confidant in saying that our children were strong and steadfast in their fight.
Bless you each for standing beside Cameron while he struggled, and may you remain as strong in your years to come

It seems only a short time ago that our boys were doing the sleepover thing, playing soccer and making plans for the next new video game release or playing hockey in our basement. Even though they hadn’t spent a lot of time together these past few years (as young men often do, they had moved in different directions), there was always that group of friends they could go back to. Cam was one of those friends.

Cam will be forever in our hearts and our thoughts. No words can express our sorrow.

    God be with you.

    Judy, Kevin and Family,

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. There is nothing that I can say at this time that seems appropriate. Although I didn’t know Cam for very long I do know that he was a very, very special guy. He was so patient and genuinely nice. I also know he was very loved by his family, friends and community. Anyone who ever met him should feel priviledged to have had the chance to know him. I know that in both life and death he will remain a strong reminder to all of how to live life to the fullest with great dignity. I know I will never, ever forget him.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Cam. My mom has kept me up to date on all the news and stories over the years and I must say that even through his illness, you all have wonderful memories to cherish and hold dear to your heart.

Memories are the gifts that are left behind when a love one passes away. You can “take them out” anytime and they can make you laugh, make you smile and yes even make you cry, but you know in your heart that each memory is filled with love.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you

Cam has left us many gifts…His legacy is his smile and his ability to relate to his family, his school and his community in a deeper way. I remember his time with us on the junior football team. When I called to let him know that he had made it past the final cuts, he was cheering on the phone- something I have never heard a player do. I will remember his willingness to work hard with his team and to strive to find his true potential as a student-athlete. He was the kind of player every coach appreciated. I will miss seeing him grow into the fine young man he would certainly have become but his courage and strength most certainly affected the family and friends who have had the privilege of being with him these last two years, and I know his influence will continue to be felt in this world.

Judy and Kevin, Cory, Nyan and Logan, we want you all to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. We are so thankful that you have been surrounded by so much family and so many good friends. I remember Cameron as being so fun and active and always so helpful with all his younger sisters and brother. I especially remember when the younger two were born how happy both Cameron and Cory were to have them home and how they both pitched in to do what ever was necessary to help with them. Cameron was a great big brother, I remember he laughed a lot, and was a big help at all the family reunions I was at. We will certainly miss his big smile and his huge heart. Much love, Cathy and Carl
