Suddenly, but as expected, not without a fight, Ron passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, November 2, 2017 of Exeter at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Elaine (Campbell) Bogart for over 58 years. Dear father of Dave and Julie Bogart of London, Ronnalee and Mike Terry of Cape Coral, Florida, and Scott and Lynda Bogart of Grand Bend. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Ella Mae Piggott of Komoka, Jerrold and Ruth Bogart of Bruce Mines, Gilbert and Diane Campbell of London, John and Barb Campbell of West Lorne and Sharon and John Blain of London. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Debra Murphy (1985).
Ron arrived in Exeter the Summer of 1959 after a Hall of Fame (inducted 2006) football career at Ontario Agricultural College (now University of Guelph) to teach at SHDHS. Ron retired in 1992 after 33 years. Ron was heavily involved in local sports, mainly football and hockey. His love of sports continued after his coaching days were over by watching his grandkids play sports. Ron could be seen at many local sporting events with his hat on backwards taking pictures.

An Exeter legend leaves this earthly life but his legacy will live on. Never played for Mr. Bogart but had him for PE classes and spent a few dollars over the years at RSD Sports Den where he was always good for an interesting conversation and top-notch merchandise. My sympathies to all who knew and loved him, especially, of course, Mrs. Bogart and my friends Dave, Scott and Ronnalee. Hang in there Bogarts. It is tough to lose your patriarch. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Please know that my thoughts are with the Bogart family at this time. Ron’s obituary is as modest as Ron was himself. Those who know Ron’s career will remember the success he had on the field and rink as a sportsman and in the community as a dedicated family man, citizen and teacher. His legacy walks with all the young men who donned the pads and helmets under his tutelage.
Sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. We know how proud and passionate Ron was about his family and friends. His booming voice and great smile left little doubt Ron was in the room! Will be remembered as a ‘coach’ to lot of Huron County kids and as a friend to a much larger circle. With respect and a feeling of privilege to have known you , farewell.
Richard and Wendy Jennison

Ron was the reason that South Huron was usually in the final conference game. His passion for the sport was contagious. He taught young boys how to become men with commitment and perseverance . My sincerest and most heart felt sympathy on the very sad passing of your life soul mate and precious Husband, Elaine and your highly respected, talented and honoured Father, David, Ronalee and Scott. I was privileged to be with your Father as recently as last June when he and your Mother were most honoured guests at our “Gr. 9 starting year class at SHDHS in 1967” reunion. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with your Father and received the most appreciative and kindly worded note of thanks from him that I will forever save in my “keepers” file. He was a very special man, coach, citizen…and I know, Father and Husband.
May your abundant, happy memories give you strength in the days and years ahead.

Thinking of you all but especially you, Elaine at this time. Ron will be missed! Sending a hug!
Having left South Huron High and the Exeter area after 1969 graduation I did not have the privilege of watching Ron and Elaine’s family grow and spread their wings with their own families. Ron’s love of life and competitive spirit however had a major impact on my own life and willingness to work with and support youth in my own community. I often reflect on my days as a panther and the capability I learned I had to dig in for “that extra yardage” for my team. You have reached the end zone. Thanks Ron
Danny “Shoe”

The Bogarts always treated me well and maintained contact with me when I left Exeter. We had our disagreements , but there was a great deal of respect as well.
Ron was an excellent coach, administrator and teacher. His energy and strength inspired students and coaches at South Huron to participate and to produce quality teams.
Even more important was the way he treated people. You knew that you had a friend for life when you dealt with him. He was a true friend.
Mr. Bogart was top, him and Mr. Halpenny ran a physical education program that could not be surpassed. I’ve seen and talked to him at his grandchildren’s hockey (big camera in hand ) , proud beyond words. Rest In Peace Ron.
Mr. Bogart was a very strong and positive influence in my high school years and one of the main reasons I went to the University of Waterloo to take Kinesiology. A great coach, teacher and role model.

Having originally grown up on a farm at R.R. 2 Southwold, Ontario, I had the pleasure of knowing the Bogarts long before my family moved to Exeter. The Bogart farm was located between our farm and my aunt and uncles farm on what is now known as “Carriage Lane” but in those days was simply known as the 2nd.
It wasn’t until high-school in Exeter that I once again got to meet Ron when he was my gym teacher.
Ron was a good man, and I know he will be deeply missed.
My deepest felt condolences to the Bogart family

Hard not to model yourself after Ron Bogart. He was the epitome of respect, hard work, honesty, integrity and understanding a person’s ability. It didn’t matter what amount of talent you had. If you worked hard and were committed that was what he expected. A lesson I was able to have him ‘pay it forward for me’. Thank you Ron for all the coaching and teaching both on and off the field. My deepest condolences to the Bogart family.

Hello Elaine and family,
We meet many people in our lifetime and there are some who leave a lasting impression. Ron was clearly one of those people. Whether it was at the rink, on the field, in the classroom, or having a general conversation, Ron was “all-in” and always fully engaged. We all learned so much from him about doing our best, keeping family first, and having a zest for life. What an inspiration he was for so many people and what a life well lived!
I was reviewing some of Ron’s coaching playbook notes the other day (written in special “Ron Bogart font”) and could not help but think of all the good times, and all the life lessons learned, as a result of knowing Ron.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
John and Tracy Van Gerwen

Elaine, Dave, Ronnalee & Scott –
My deepest sympathies to each of you and your families. I was very sorry to hear of Mr.B’s passing. I have great memories of spending Saturdays at the store with him (there may have been a few blueberry muffins involved) but my fondest memory was being one of two grade 12 girls in a full OAC phys.ed class and him telling me “don’t let those boys intimidate you”. He was a great man, with a great family. Hugs to you all at this difficult time.

Sincere condolences. I remember a wonderful person, teacher and coach from my SHDHS days. May the good memories bring comfort to you and your family.
Dear Elaine, Dave, Ronnalee, Scott, & Family,
Please accept our sincerest condolences. Ron was an amazing sportsman. I have very fond memories of him as my coach in hockey for numerous years and later on as a phys. ed. instructor at South Huron. Let it be known that it was his influence which inspired me to become involved in my own kids’ sporting endeavours as a hockey and soccer coach. I realized too the full extent of Ron’s impact when I became a teacher myself.
He will be greatly missed but take comfort knowing that he is now in the best place possible; in the loving hands of our Lord.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.

He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this trying time.

Not only a good coach a great educator. My youngest son was an All Canadian at Guelph, where I saw him often. He was Guelphs Captain in the mid 50’s. I met his teammates at a Homecoming and it was obvious that his ex-teammates considered him as the leader. Ron was always very kind to my wife and I. Debbie Bogart went to school with my wife in St. Thomas Ontario.Exeter has lost a legend.
