BILLINGTON: Marion Eleanor (Turkheim) of London

January 31, 1942 – November 28, 2020

Remembering the life and legacy of a teacher.

Following a brief illness, Marion passed away peacefully with family members by her side at LHSC – University Hospital on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the age of 78. Marion will be sadly missed by her loving partner John Menzies. Devoted and loving mother of Mark, Craig and Jon, and their spouses, Janice (Babineau), Kathryn (Humphreys), and Lynda (Ollson). Nana Marion will be remembered and loved always by her grandchildren, Nicole, Justin (Emily), Marissa, Ella, Tyler, Kate, Will & Finn. Loving sister of Richard Turkheim and his wife Carol. Dear auntie M to Alex & Julia. Survived by the father of her children, Bill Billington. She will be remembered fondly by devoted friends, former colleagues, and students. Following graduation from Althouse College and the University of Western Ontario Marion spent her career teaching in London, ON at Princess Elizabeth Public, Saint George Public, Sherwood Forest Elementary and Sir Winston Churchill Public before a well-deserved retirement in 2005 after a thirty-year teaching career. Most sincere gratitude is extended to her surgical care team led by Dr. Pang and Dr. Walser, the continued support of Lynn Cowdrey-Carroll in Social work, along with Dr. Milne and the team of Palliative Care doctors, nurses and PSWs from University Hospital.

Keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Homes, Zurich 519-236-4365.

Donations to London Health Sciences Foundation, Alzheimer Society of London and Middlesex, or Thames Valley Children’s Centre would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Jon, Lynda & family we were sorry to read in this mornings paper about the passing of your Mom. It’s a sad thing to lose a parent & compound that with a world wide pandemic that impedes the way we get to say good bye & for others to pay their respect must make it especially hard. Our thoughts are with you as your family mourns a big loss. Dave & Cathy Disher

I taught with Marion for several years at Churchill School. Hers was the first face that I saw every morning while entering the school through the “Kindergarten” door. She was always cheerful and exuberant about teaching those little ones. I am sorry to hear that she has passed away. Please accept my sympathies. Nancy Turner

Mrs. Billington was my kindergarten teacher some 26 or so years ago. She was always so kind, always so caring. My condolences to the family. I can only imagine how wonderful it must have been to have such an uplifting and positive person in your life. I’m sure she will be greatly missed and I am truly sorry for your loss.

It is with deep sadness that I’ve heard today of Marion’s passing. She and my sister Ruth spent many growing up years in each other’s company in Zurich.. We were actually second cousins on the Haberer side. My deep condolences to Marion’s family and to her brother Richard and Carol. May you be comforted with special memories. Marilyn Heimrich of Zurich and family.
