Unexpectedly at South Huron Hospital on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 of Exeter, formerly of Hensall and Grand Bend at the age of 85. Cherished wife of Hielke Berends for over 56 years. Proud mother of Rob Berends (Sylvie Duguay), and Wayne Berends. Adored grandma of Clarissa Wilson-Berends, Melisa Duguay, Samantha Duguay, and Kevin Duguay. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Evelyn John, Joanne Walper, and Willemtje Yule. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Lloyd and Norma Walper, Mervyn and Audrey Walper, Willis Walper, George John, and Harold Peck.
Cremation has taken place. Private family interment will be held at the Grand Bend Cemetery. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at the Exeter Lions Youth Centre, 125 John Street West, Exeter on Saturday, August 20th, beginning at 12 noon.
Donations to the South Huron Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
Hielke, Rob and Sylvie, Wayne, Clair and Brad, Melisa, Samantha and Kevin, we are saddened on Jean’s passing. She was a friendly lady who enjoyed her walking. She and Hielke would be at many dances that we were. Cherish your precious memories. Hugs and prayers, George and Sue Wilson and family

Please accept our condolences on the passing of Jean. I got to know her through my career and developed an admiration for her commitment to improve her health through walking . Back then, she was a proud Grandma to just one little girl…I am glad that her life was enriched by more grandkids. May your memories be a comfort.
