Dad / Pops to Terry (Lois St-Louis), Denise & Daryl De Fehr, Peter Jr & Linda, Steve & Shelley, Colleen & Liam Brennan. Grandpa / Gramps to Darryl (Jessica LaChance), Danielle, Graham; Alicia Schroeder (Conroy Briscoe), Craig Schroeder & Lori Lowes; Nathan & Dru, Jessica (Yasser Killany), Rebecca; Aaron, Dylan (Justine Moore). Great Grandpa to Lennox, Harland; Tyrell (Nykia), Tyrick (Emma), Tyeisha, Tyliah, Tyelah; Maverick, Wren. Great Great Grandpa to Koleeo, & Kruz.

Brother & brother-in-law to Veronica, Cecilia & Gordon Smith, Tony & Marlene, Monica & Larry, Agnes Willert, Madeline & Stuart Shepherd, Julie & Marty Becker, Ivan & Rosemary; Sarah & Ted Robson, Uleen & Dan Callaghan, Martha & Joe Risi, Nancy Ducharme, Helene Malcolm & Fred Green, Dianne Ducharme, Paul & Dorothy Ducharme, George & Elaine Ducharme, Donna Watson, Darlene & Hughie McDonald, Bernadette & John McAuley. Fondly remembered by Linda Johnston-Bedard, Ken Schroeder and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Percy & Marie (Masse) Bedard and siblings Jim, Dick, Michael, Percy Jr, Patsy; his in-laws Bette Bedard, Sam Willert, Paul & Violet Ducharme, Marie & Jerome Denomme, Edsel & Thelma Ducharme, Elva Hoover, Ted Ducharme Sr., Matthew Ducharme, Jerome Ducharme, Alex Malcolm, David Chisholm and daughter-in-law Darlene Steranka.

Our Peter was a kind & compassionate soul…often referred to as “the sweetest man”. His twinkling blue eyes, warm smile & comforting hugs were his signature trademarks. He was a trusted confidant to many. He spoke the truth (when asked), he accepted everyone for who they were and always offered words of encouragement. He knew no greed and was always content with “just enough”. A person in need was never denied his help, whether known or a complete stranger. He radiated love and a soothing calmness. His presence was all that was required to heal a broken heart or make the world a better place at that moment in time. The 3rd oldest of 13 children growing up on a farm in rural Ontario, Peter learned at a young age what hard work was. His career was spent in agriculture and construction, but his heart was with his love for animals and nurturing crops. He was dedicated and loyal, with a work ethic second to none. He had a no quit attitude, which is what made him so unique. The road he walked was not an easy one with many bumps along the way, but he did it with grace, determination and an undying faith & trust in God. He believed that if he was suffering, then maybe he was sparing someone who needed the relief more. His proudest accomplishment was his family and his family is what he lived for. He cherished the moments when we could all be together and had a unique bond with each and every one of his loved ones. His greatest gift to us was his offering of unconditional love at every turn, right until his last days. The thought of life without him is unimaginable, but knowing that he is now at peace, free from pain is what brings us comfort. We know that it is just “per-fick”. Jingle, jingle, jingle…it’s time to pick your favourite chocolate bar!

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 49 Goshen Street North, ZURICH on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM. Registration is required and appreciated. Please click “Register Now” below, to register.

Peter’s Funeral Mass will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 22 Mary Street, Zurich on Saturday, October 1st at 11 AM. Many thanks to our big, beautiful family and many friends who have taken the emotional roller coaster ride with us and have always provided their unwavering love, prayers and support during Peter’s 30-year health journey. Thank you to Dr. Maria Tetelbaum, her staff, South West LHIN, as well as the doctors and nurses at South Huron Hospital (Exeter), LHSC (Victoria & University) who were true to their calling and offered genuine empathy and compassion to Peter in his times of need. A special thank you to the Huron County Community Paramedic Team for the weekly visits that Peter looked forward to in his home, providing their care & support.

Peter was our family’s second father. Growing up Bedard’s were our best friends. We have a special bond. We had 3 siblings and each one of us had Bedard’s for Best Man or Maid of Honor and so did three of them. Sleepovers were a regular thing. If it was a weekend we would go with Peter to work to pick eggs! It was fun! Coming back, we always got treated to a bottle of orange crush or pop of your choice. Peter was always happy, always smiled and was always there. He was a very chilled dad and husband. He made raising a family of 5 look like fun. He loved Teresa and they made the perfect team. Take comfort in knowing that your family Patriarch was amazing and no longer suffers. He had great faith and will be greeting everyone in Heaven with his smile and hugs. RIP Mr. Bedard

We are sending our condolences to Theresa and family . We will always have our memory of Peter and Theresa out for their evening walk. Holding hands and both with big smiles. When we moved to our home Peter was there to welcome us to the neighbour hood. He remained that very special neighbour , always watching out for our house if we were away. His thoughtfulness was ongoing. We consider it a privilege to have known such a special man.
As we are in Kelowna BC we will not be able to attend the funeral but we are sending lots of hugs and prayers to you all.

“Beautiful “ tribute to such a deserving man who has touched and changed so many.
I always enjoyed Peter’s stays at the hospital our little chats but I always took a life lesson from them. His suffering on earth was hard to understand , no one can answer that one . I am sure he had the quickest flight to his resting place. Hang on tight to not only the beautiful memories but to his actions on how he handled such a hard and long road, he truly was one of God’s Angels. “Rest Peacefully Peter”

    Dear Aunt Theresa and family
What can I say but I am sadden to see this kind heart has left us to be with those that awaited him. He was like a second dad to me and my siblings. We will miss that smile and twinkle in his eyes…his giggles..his kind heart. Never will be forgotten….his fight for life was incredible and endearing at the same time. My thoughts are he is at peace and his fight on earth is complete….may he enjoy the other angels who were all around to greet him…love you all so much…hugsxo

Theresa, Steve and Shelley, Colleen and Liam and all family members,
My deepest sympathies to you and your family at this time. Peter was a wonderful man with a great sense of humour. I first met Peter in 1960. I was boarding at the “Drysdale General Store” in Drysdale. Peter would come in and buy his breakfast which consisted of a Pepsi and chocolate bar. Being new in the community he was always ready with a joke and a tease. I will always remember his wonderful sense of humour.
RIP Peter. You fought a hard battle.
