Passed away peacefully at South Huron Hospital Monday, June 3, 2024 at the age of 85. Cherished wife of the late Edward House (1998). Proud mother of Ed and Karen House of Exeter, Laurie House and Shannon Rydall of Huron Park, and Doug House and Jeanette Smith of Crediton. Adored grandmother of Nicole (Tyler) Heywood, and Ashley (Sean) Sousa and dear great-grandmother of Jackson Heywood, Lily Heywood, Olive Heywood, Clark Heywood, Evelyn Sousa, and Irie Sousa. Survived by her youngest brother and his wife Erwin and Eleanor Bohnet of Wyevale. Predeceased by her siblings Olga Knauer, Rudolph Knauer, Anne Knauer.
Nina loved quilting and gardening as hobbies, as well as spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As per Nina’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Canadian Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
We are always willing to go where called upon but this image shows a visual of the communities that our included in our initial transportation fee. Nina was a great addition to any gathering and we looked forward to every visit she made to Wymbolwood Beach! If she wasn’t such a fun person, it would be easy to be jealous of her many talents ’cause there wasn’t much this woman couldn’t do …. quilt, cut hair, swim (in her younger daze in Niagara on the Lake) cook up a storm in a moment’s notice just to name the a few. … no wonder she was so welcomed as a cook at the local hospital for years. To those closest to her , I can only imagine what a hole she has left in your lives but your remembrances are now priceless pieces of your history. To me she was the best sister-in-love ever (the fact that she was the only one is irrelevant) and I’ll treasure the infrequent but good times we shared throughout the years forever.

Growing up with ed junior, Laurie and doug was awesome.if you ever watched the 70’s show, you would understand.Nina was an incredible, supportive and kind mom to a-lot of us.I dont recall her ever really giving us a hard time for the loud music and other things we were doing in her basement.She fed and housed so many of us through the years, welcomed us with open arms even when we drove big eddy nuts.

Doug and Ed and Laurie and families. When I heard of your mom’s passing, countless memories came flooding back. So many years ago, we spent so much time together on good old St Lawrence Avenue avoiding the Gooch patches as we travelled up and down the road back-and-forth to each other’s houses. The time at Doug’s birthday party when Nina kept bringing hotdog after hot dog after hot dog and Tim Griffith and I ate 11 each and both stared at the last one on the plate to find a winner. Yes, I grabbed it and took one bite, and that put me over the top! Then there was always the tea with enough sugar the spoon almost stood straight up. And then down to the snake pit to do what teenagers did back in the 70’s! So often it takes one’s passing to stir up the memory banks but hold on to them closely and take comfort in knowing the wonderful effect your family had on the rest of us.
