My sincerest condolences to Jim’s family. know Jim’s kind, funny and thoughtful spirt will be deeply missed. I will miss having Jim sitting in my chair for his haircuts. He use to always joke that I needed to confirm I was happy with each haircut so that if anyone asked him at the grocery store he’d let them know who his hairstylist was.

I was blessed to reconnect with ‘cousin’ Jim as a volunteer at the Blyth festival. We instantly bonded as his late wife was related to my Pa, Glen Sippel. Grandma was Anna Stock. Condolences to his family. I enjoyed sharing stories that remembered past and present memories. I was richer having this relationship with him.

We were deeply saddened to learn of Jim’s passing, a loss keenly felt by his children and grandchildren. Throughout his adult life, Jim was a dedicated contributor to his community, known for his engaging smile and remarkable sense of humor, which effortlessly put everyone at ease. His impact on the Huron County Board of Education was immeasurable, his timing always spot-on, whether offering encouragement or gentle correction to both adults and children. Jim’s selflessness extended beyond his professional life, volunteering his time to organizations like Big Brother and Sister. The world would undoubtedly benefit from more individuals like Jim. May the cherished memories of him provide solace during this difficult time.

Dear Chapman family and Mrs. Talbot,

It was always such a pleasure to stop and chat with Mr. Chapman. Sometimes we would meet on the street, the balcony at church, EPS reunions and my favorite, in the swimming pool in Florida. What a nice surprise it was to see him there. Who would have thought after the many years since having the privilege of having him as my principal, we would end up visiting the same retirement community. Remembering Jim will always bring a smile to my face.
Sending you strength as you face the days ahead.
    Julianne

    Hi grandpa Jim,
This letter turned out a bit different than I thought. Originally, I wanted to send it to you by mail next week. I guess we would both have preferred it that way. I just wanted to tell you that I’m doing great and thinking a lot about you. Here’s how I will keep you in my memory forever: someone who was never too old to be a child; always with a joy for games, silly jokes and anything fun. The most amazing grandpa with a heart just so big and loving. You always made me feel welcome, appreciated, loved and at home. Every year at my birthday, your call would be the most unexpected but also the one I treasured most. I looked forward to seeing you each and every time.
You showed me that love and family has no restriction. That there’s always enough space for everyone in ones heart and ones home. And they will be sure to be welcome. I’ve learned from you that life is always better with a (slightly mischievous) smile on your face. That joy can be found in the simplest, sometimes most silly moments. If I just get to take these things from you and live up to them, I will be most happy.
You might not be here anymore, but your soul will live on in everyone loved by you. It already does.
I’ll miss you dearly but always be proud to have been able to call you my grandpa.
    Love, Isabelle

You were such a loving and caring, kind and gentle person; always filled with love, happiness, laughter, joy and a welcoming, positive forward looking view on life through and through. We will always remember you and your smile and cherish these memories. All of us were blessed to know you for so long and yet too short!

Jim gave the best hugs. The types that surrounded you like a bubble and made you feel seen and loved within that bubble. He inspired me to always hug like that.

He also taught me how to meticulously and strategically view roadmaps. With mischievous sparkle his eye, he showed me that a map illuminated more than just a pathway from A to B, but spoke of adventures yet to be taken and savoured. We spent hours laughing and planning our Queensland trip when your mum and dad visited me in Australia.

His love for his family was always front and centre in his life, it was a continuous burning ember keeping him warm. I hope in the days, weeks, and years to come, you also feel the warmth of the embers of his love for you all.

Like the elusive white squirrel of Exeter, Jim was a rare and precious creature.

My heart goes out to you all. I will watch his celebration of life service virtually and hold you all in my heart.

He touched the lives of many. A principal that knew everyone’s name. A friendly wink when he said hello. I also had the honour of working with him when he escorted many Newfoundland tours, I learned so many worldly things from him. A kind soul. Rest in sweet peace Mr. Chapman. Deepest sympathy and may memories comfort you! I admired and respected your dad and was honoured to be on the Exeter Public School teaching staff when he was Principal. After our move to B.C., he totally surprised us by calling on our 60th Anniversary. Two years ago, it was lovely to reconnect at an EPS reunion. Rest in peace, Jim. The world is a better place because you lived.

Sue, Gary and the Chapman family,

Your dad and grandfather can only be described as a life force. Jim was a caring and involved family man, a pillar of the community, and an inspiration of learning to generations of children. Personally, Jim was my boss, mentor and friend, a man whose common sense and sage wisdom guided me as a fledgling educator to become my best. And always, as the dad of a close friend he became my surrogate dad too.
He was a gift to all, and he will be missed.
    Much love
    Betty Beer
