SCHWEITZER: Garth of London

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at LHSC – University Hospital on January 14, 2022 at the age of 80. Born April 1st , 1941 to Delton and Gladys Schweitzer in Galt Ontario and raised in Paris. He eventually moved and built a life in London, Ontario. Loving and devoted husband to his soulmate and companion, Eleanor. Cherished father of Alice Melfi (John), Cindy Blaha (John), and Debbie Jeffery (Brian). Loving step-father to Wendy Sutherland (Robert), Blair Masschelein and Phillip Masschelein (Laura). Big brother to Denise Johnston (David+) and Brian Schweitzer (Doreen). Proud grandfather of Kayla, Joshua (Marsh), Natasha (Matt), Ashley (Chris), Dylan, Kyle, Blake, Caroline, Liam, Charlotte, and Reed. Also, survived by great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Garth was a kind, and spiritual man with a love of books and all sports especially baseball and his team The Detroit Tigers. His wit and dry sense of humour was well known and he will be leaving a huge void in our lives. Garth was a retired employee of Bell Canada and a devout and faithful warden of St Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican church for 20 years.

A private funeral service will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Tuesday, January 18th at 11 AM. Interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. Though the service is private, the family invites you to join with them from the comfort of your home. Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners, or St. Martin-in-the-fields Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.

My sincere condolences to all of Garth’s family. Garth was a very kind, friendly and caring neighbour, who gave Eleanor excellent care during her long illness.
Every week, for years. Garth brought in the blue boxes for all the residents at the north end of the complex at 60 Fiddlers Green.

His kindness was very much appreciated and he will be missed.
