Peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, September 28, 2020 of Zurich, at the age of 64. Cherished and beloved husband of Karen (Durand) Masse for over 45 years. Proud father of Jody, Greg and Honey, Brad and Laura, Tim and Stephanie, Chad and Amanda, Stephen and Lauren, Grant and Katie, and Max and Sammy. Adored Papa of Alyssa and Dalton, Jaxson, and Clinton; Miaya, Sydney, and Owen; Paige, Lucas, and Kyla; Erica, and Addison; Brooke, Blake, Will, and Brody; Charlie, Levi, and Piper; Harvey, Hannah, and Jasper; Gabby and Baby to be. Much loved great-papa of Noah. Loved son of Lucille (Regier) and the late Clare Masse (2003). Rick will be dearly missed by his best friend Jack Bender. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Marlene and Lennis Bedard, Gerard and Henrica Masse, Elaine and Donat Beauchamp, Janet and Stephen Durand, Brenda and Bill Degroot, Mike and Wendy Masse, Phil and Connie Masse, Lorie Masse and Jim Nyssen, Kevin and Jeanette Masse, Rose-Ann Durand, Marilyn Durand, Ken and Barb Durand, Joe Durand, Helene and John Pearce, Marlene and Jean Rivard, and Dan and Michelle Durand. Uncle Rick will be remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers-in-law Dennis and David Durand.
Rick was the owner and operator of Rick Masse Trucking. He was proud when his oldest son Jody decided to become the third generation to take over the family business. He loved to play cards, enjoy a good game of family volleyball, and take his family to both the ice rink and the baseball diamonds. Rick was always up for a good laugh and tried to get a rise out of anyone that was around.
A private family funeral mass will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Friday, October 2nd at 11 AM. Though the funeral mass is private, the family invites you to join with them from the comfort of your home. Stream the service live by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held on Friday, October 2nd from 2:30 – 5:30 PM. Due to Provincial COVID-19 restrictions, each person must RSVP to attend the celebration. Masks are required. I was so saddened to hear of my friend Rick Masse passing away- I hope you know my entire family has been thinking and praying for you in these sad times.
It made me think of all the interactions our families had together over the years. I recall shipping pigs to your business with the pig bus and my small pre-school kids riding along to see “Ricky Masse”. Even though we were unloading stubborn pigs in all weather, we were always greeted with a smile under a sweaty brow and a little joke for the kids- they instantly felt the family warmth that yourself and Rick had built within your own family and the community we all lived in. We had a lot of fun playing baseball against the Cobra’s although I have to admit seeing a steady stream of athletic Masse boys whooping my team sometimes made for a long night- but you could always count on Rick and his crew to make you feel good even with a lopsided scoreboard! I wish I could say it was any different when we played couples volleyball – not a chance. We might have lost more than we won but certainly the memories are of the fun and laughs we all shared.
I think the last time I saw you two was at the Farm Show and we shared a lunch together. You made such an excellent couple and I was struck after 40 plus years of marriage how close you still were to each other.
