Memories from the family…

Memories from Sara:

My mother, Nan Kinsman, always set a fine example for me when I was growing up.
I remember her always being kind to others. She always noticed when a new person or family showed up at church and invited them to lunch. (Maybe that came from being a minister’s daughter).  She was very active in church women’s groups and the church choir. She also sang in the Centennial Choir in Ottawa, performing on Parliament Hill in 1967 for Canada’s 100th birthday.

When I was growing up she sewed and knitted all our clothes.  I did not always appreciate this, especially in high school, when I saved my money to buy the jeans the other kids wore.  For her grandchildren she made elegant smocked clothing as well. Her quilts, quilted clothing, and wall hangings showed her artistic side.

Mother was always there when I needed her.  She would drop everything and come across the province to help with the kids if needed, looking after Owen right after I had Lydia, and coming to look after kids with chicken pox who couldn’t go to daycare while I was at work.

I was privileged to have such a caring mother!

Memories from Lydia:

I have many wonderful memories with my grandmother.  I have fond memories of spending a week with her each summer as a child.  It was then that she taught me how to sew.  We would work together on a new sewing project each summer.  She was also an excellent chef and would make my favourite dishes each time I visited.  She was patient and caring, and I strive to exhibit the same qualities.  She will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Memories from Owen:

I have many fond memories of my grandmother, Nan Kinsman. She was the kindest, most loving grandma that any grandson could hope for. Some of my best childhood memories are of spending many Christmases at her and Grandpa’s house in Ottawa. She always made the most delicious, traditional home-cooked Christmas dinners that made the holidays so memorable. On other occasions, she taught me some cooking and how to bake pies from scratch. She always took an interest in my life and in watching my sister and me grow up. I cherish all the years we visited her in Florida to escape the Canadian winter and the summer visits to Ottawa. I remember her being cheerful and caring, and I will miss her a lot.

Our sincere sympathy, Sara in the loss of your mother.

I shared many women’s group meetings, and other things with Nan as we worshipped together at Bromley. Your parents usually sat right behind us in church.

Although that was some time ago, I remember your Mother as a fun, caring woman. As well as meetings we also did quilting together when we worked on the quilted wall hanging that hangs in the church.

She will be missed by many and she touched so many,,

Our prayers are with you, in your loss. Sincerely, Win & Eileen Smith
