STUART: Harry of Exeter

December 15, 2023 By Haskett Funeral Homes 115 Condolences

STUART: Harry of Exeter

Suddenly, but peacefully, in his home in Exeter, Harry Stuart passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the age of 76.

Harry was born March 18, 1947, in Simcoe, to Fred and Josephine Stuart. He was a proud brother to Jean Kitchen, Bob Stuart, the late Dave Stuart and Heather McEwen.

Harry’s work for the bank brought him to Exeter where he met and married the true love of his life, Carol (McLeod) in 1973. He was the beloved father of Carrie Stuart (Jay) and Ryan Stuart (Megan) and adoring Papa to Alex, Elsie and Ollie.

Harry volunteered for countless different organizations and causes, and a special delight to him were the kids who rode his school bus. Above all, he always had a giant smile, funny stories or words of encouragement for everyone he met.

A celebration of life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Tuesday, December 19th at 1 PM. A time to share stories and reminiscence on the good times with Harry will follow.

Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh

Donations in Harry’s name to the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre would be appreciated by the family.

To honour Harry’s memory, please do something to acknowledge and celebrate the beauty of everyday life:

  • Volunteer your time or talents to your community
  • Say a kind word to someone who is having a rough day
  • Crank up the volume of a song you love
  • Tell a kid you believe in them and think they are great
  • Spend time petting an animal
  • Make sure your loved ones know how much they mean to you

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The kids & I are thinking of you all. I have such fond memories of chatting with Harry over the years. I bumped into him during covid at Sobeys and he was beaming with pride telling me about how he was learning to cook new recipes so Carol could have a night off. I passed him driving the bus every single morning on my route to work and always got a big wave and smile. I am already missing that simple, happy moment each morning. We’ll be thinking of you throughout the holidays. Big hugs to you all.

On behalf of the South Huron DHS community, I want to express our deepest condolences to Harry’s family for your sudden loss. As the principal of the school, I spoke to Harry often as not only did he drive the regular route to Grand Bend each day, but he also drove our late bus in the early evenings. Harry always had a smile and a kind word for anyone he met. He loved driving the bus and bringing his students safely to school each day. He is sorely missed!!!

    December 19, 2023 at 7:39 AM

I’m so very sad to hear of Harry’s passing. He drove my boys bus to South Huron DHS, in Exeter. I was also a teacher there when they started riding with Harry so I would often chat with Harry on bus duty. He spoke very highly of the kids that rode his bus from Grand Bend. He would go out of his way to make sure all the kids got home safe, even if it bent the rules. Harry could spot my vehicle a mile away and would always wave at me with a big grin! I often ran on the country roads in Grand Bend after school and again he would give a big smile and wave. In our quick chats at the bus he would talk of his family and how blessed he was. Harry will be missed by the kids who rode his bus and I will miss his waves.
Thank you for being a bright light to the kids who rode your bus!

    To Harry’s Family,

Meeting someone as special as Harry will have a lasting impact on my life, and the lives of my children.

Without fail, through rain, sun, snow and fog, Harry would arrive at our stop on Pinetree Drive with a smile, a kind hello to my boys and he always took the time to talk with me and my companion Sirius. It was Harry who claimed Sirius was ‘a mighty fine dog’ and everyday we eagerly looked for his bus. Some mornings were slow going but Harry always waited and he told me not to worry as he would look down the road for us. Sirius and I would wait as Harry turned the bus around and every departure without fail, he’d open his window and wave as he drove off. Harry even went to one of my son’s baseball games and cheered with me in the stands. He always told me he’d not retire until my youngest had graduated grade 12. That’s what kind of an incredible man Harry was. I can only say how lucky and grateful our family is to have had Harry in our lives for almost four years.

We are so very sorry and heartbroken for your loss. Please know that Harry’s kindness, caring and commitment as the best bus driver ever, will never be forgotten. There will never be another Harry.

    Sincerely,

Beckett, Atty, Kerry and Sirius 🐾🤍

So sorry to hear of Harry’s passing. Always smiling and pleasant to be with. Had the pleasure of collaborating with Harry at most of his jobs through the years. He was an excellent draftsman both manually and later on computers. A real “people person”. He will be greatly missed.
